1987 Hong Kong Masters
The 1987 Hong Kong Masters was a professional non-ranking snooker tournament held from 2 to 6 September 1987 at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong. Eight professional players and eight local amateur players participated. Steve Davis won the title, defeating Stephen Hendry 9–3 in the final. The tournament was sponsored by billiard table manufacturers Riley. The event was part of the World Series for the 1987–88 snooker season, a series of invitational snooker events organised by Barry Hearn of Matchroom Sport and Barrie Gill of CSS International, and endorsed by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. Eight events were planned, but only three took place, which Hearn blamed on a sponsor withdrawing and competition for TV airtime with other sporting events. Queen Elizabeth Stadium
The Queen Elizabeth Stadium is an indoor sport facility on the Morrison Hill in Wan Chai, on the Hong Kong Island of Hong Kong. First opened in 1980, it has a 3,500-seat arena, gymnasia, squash and badminton courts, and a multi-purpose hall. It was built by the Urban Council, and is now managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government. It hosted the official 1983 Asian Basketball Championship. History Queen Elizabeth II made her first visit to Hong Kong, then a British colony, in May 1975. This Royal Visit became the namesake of the stadium. The construction was funded by various means including donations from local philanthropists such as Sir Tang Shiu-kin, and the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club. New Straits Times
The ''New Straits Times'' is an English-language newspaper published in Malaysia. It is Malaysia's oldest newspaper still in print (though not the first), having been founded as ''The Straits Times'' on 15 July 1845. It was relaunched as the ''New Straits Times'' on 13 August 1974. The paper served as Malaysia's only broadsheet format English-language newspaper. However, following the example of British newspapers ''The Times'' and ''The Independent'', a tabloid version first rolled off the presses on 1 September 2004 and since 18 April 2005, the newspaper has been published only in tabloid size, ending a 160-year-old tradition of broadsheet publication. The ''New Straits Times'' currently retails at RM1.50 (~37 US cents) in Peninsular Malaysia. As of 2 January 2019, the group editor of the newspaper is Rashid Yusof.
