1987 Girabola
The 1987 Girabola was the ninth season of top-tier football competition in Angola. Atlético Petróleos de Luanda were the defending champions. The league comprised 14 teams, the bottom three of which were relegated. Petro de Luanda were crowned champions, winning their 4th title, and second in a row, while Desportivo da Chela, Progresso do Sambizanga and União Sport do Bié were relegated. Mavango Kiala aka ''Mavó'' of Ferroviário da Huíla finished as the top scorer with 20 goals. Girabola
Girabola, or ''Campeonato Nacional de Futebol em Séniores Masculinos'', is the top division of Angolan football. It is organized by the Angolan Football Federation. The league winner and runner-up qualify for the CAF Champions League. Girabola ZAP In January 2016, Angolan subscription TV satellite and cable provider ZAP, the Angolan Football Federation and the Girabola clubs, signed a three-year deal in which ZAP will have broadcast rights over all Girabola matches. As part of the deal, the Angolan state-owned TV station TPA will be allowed to broadcast one game per week on its free-view platform. Also as part of the deal, the Girabola changes its denomination to Girabola ZAP. Atlético Sport Aviação, best known as ASA, is a football club from Luanda, Angola. The club was founded in 1953 by a group of workers from TAAG's predecessor DTA. Mr. Jacinto Medina was the first chairman. Before Angola's independence, the club was known as Atlético Sport Aviação . After independence, it was called Desportivo da TAAG, named after its major sponsor, the Angolan Airlines. In 1992, the club's name was reverted to its original ''ASA''. Estrela Clube Primeiro de Maio, usually known simply as Primeiro de Maio or 1º de Maio, is a football (soccer) club from Benguela, Angola. The club was the result of a merger from two clubs: Estrela Vermelha de Benguela and Grupo Desportivo 1º de Maio being then named África Têxtil 1º de Maio de Benguela due to its then major sponsor, a Benguela-based textile factory called África Têxtil. Shortly afterwards, the name was changed to its present denomination. In its golden years, in the 1980s, the club has won two Angolan leagues (1983 and 1985), three Angolan cups (1982, 1983 and 2007) and one Angolan supercup (1985). Sporting Clube de Luanda best known as Sporting de Luanda, is an Angolan multisports club based in Luanda. The club's football team, while being one of the most ancient and traditional clubs in Luanda, has been out of major competition due to financial reasons. The team was founded in 1920. During the colonial period in Angola, the club has won eight times the Angolan Provincial Championship the top division of Angolan football as a Portuguese colony. Following the country's independence in 1975 and in an attempt by the communist regime to erase all traces of colonial rule, the club which has been created as an affiliate to Sporting Clube de Portugal was ordered to change its name and therefore became known as Diabos Verdes ''(Green Devils)'', effective from January 31, 1980.
