1987 Calder 300
The 1987 Yokohama/Bob Jane T-Marts 300 was an endurance race for Group A touring cars held at the Calder Park Raceway in Melbourne, Australia on the rarely used combined circuit which incorporated both the recently redeveloped road course and the newly completed NASCAR-style “Thunderdome” oval. The combined oval/road course was 4.216 km (2.620 mi) long and the race was run over 70 laps. The race took place on 9 August 1987. The race, which attracted 20 starters and was the first ever run on the combined road course / oval circuit, was won by the Peter Jackson Nissan Racing turbo Skyline DR30 RS of John Bowe and Terry Sheil. 1986 Australian Touring Car Championship
The 1986 Australian Touring Car Championship was the 27th running of the Australian Touring Car Championship. It began on 2 March 1986 at Amaroo Park and ended on 13 July at Oran Park Raceway after ten rounds. This was the second ATCC to be run to the FIA's international Group A Touring Car Regulations. Season Summary The championship was won by Auckland (New Zealand) resident Robbie Francevic driving a Volvo Dealer Team Volvo 240T, the first time the championship had been won by a non-Australian resident and the first ATCC won by a turbocharged car. Garry Rush
Garry Rush (born July 5, 1944)) is a retired Australian professional motor racing driver. Born in the New South Wales town of Camden, he competed in Sprintcars, Speedcars, NASCAR, Formula Ford and Touring cars in a 40 year career. Rush won a record 10 Australian Sprintcar Championships and seven Grand Annual Sprintcar Classics at Premier Speedway, Warrnambool. Austrialian Racing Career Rush started racing near his residence of Auburn, New South Wales in a Stock Rod at Westmead Speedway in 1964. After crashing out of several events, he accepted a drive in a midget speedcar. He moved up to a Super Modified and won the 1966 NSW championship. It was the final iteration of the first generation of the Holden Commodore and included the luxury variant, Holden Calais (VL). Perkins Engineering was a team contesting the Australian V8 Supercar Championship Series, operating as an active racing team between 1986 and 2008. Larry Clifton Perkins (born 18 March 1950) is a former racing driver and V8 Supercar team owner from Australia. Biography Early years Growing up on a farm in Cowangie in the Mallee region of Victoria, Larry, the son of racing driver Eddie Perkins who had won the 1956 RedeX Round Australia Trial and maternal nephew of Bathurst 500-winner George Reynolds, developed a love for cars from a young age and loved tinkering with the farm machinery.
