The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations ( sw, Baraza la Mashirikisho ya Mpira wa Miguu Afrika Mashariki na Kati, french: Conseil des Associations de Football d'Afrique de l'Est et Centrale, ar, مؤتمر جمعيات شرق ووسط أفريقيا لكرة القدم; officially abbreviated as CECAFA) is an association of the football playing nations in mostly East Africa and a bit of Central Africa. An affiliate of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), CECAFA is the oldest sub-regional football organisation on the continent. History CECAFA was founded unofficially in 1927. The competition was sponsored by the major Nairobi-based soap-manufacturing firm Gossage, owned by the British Lever Brothers. Its formation is often misattributed to William Gossage, founder of the Gossage company. However, he died 50 years before the CECAFA was established. CECAFA Cup
The CECAFA Cup, is the oldest football tournament in Africa. It is organized by the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA). A FIFA competition, it includes participants of football playing national teams from the East African Region. Cup history There is an anomaly on national teams in the case of Tanzania. It fields two teams, Tanzania and Zanzibar. In 2005 and 2006, the tournament was sponsored by the Ethiopian-Saudi businessman Sheikh Mohammed Al Amoudi, and was dubbed the ''Al Amoudi Senior Challenge Cup''. It is the successor competition of the ''Gossage Cup'', held 37 times from 1926 until 1966, and the ''East and Central African Senior Challenge Cup'', held 7 times between 1965 and 1971. In August 2012, CECAFA signed a sponsorship deal worth US$450,000 with East African Breweries to have the cup renamed to the ''CECAFA Tusker Challenge Cup''. Henry Motego
Henry Motego (born 21 May 1964) is a former Kenya international football forward who played for clubs in Kenya and Oman. Club career Born in Gucha District, Motego began playing football in the local league for Shabana Kisii. He helped the club gain promotion to the Kenyan Premier League in 1988. After performing well with Shabana, he was noticed by Kenya Breweries F.C. and signed for the club in 1989. In 1991, Motego signed for Omani league side Al-Oruba SC for two seasons. Motego returned to play for Kenya Breweries until he retired in 2000. International career Motego made several appearances for the Kenya national football team, including six FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. Lawrence Waya
Lawrence Waya (born 25 May 1963 in Mphonde, Nyasaland) is a former Malawi international football player and manager. Club career Born in the village of Mphonde in Phalombe District, Waya joined local club Bata Bullets in 1980. He spent most of his career with Bullets, but had a brief spell in the United Arab Emirates with Al Jazira Club, and finished his career with Silver Strikers F.C. International career Waya made over 100 appearances for the Malawi national football team, including seven FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. Waya won a bronze medal with Malawi at the 1987 All-Africa Games in Nairobi. Career as manager After retiring from playing, Waya took coaching courses in the United Kingdom and received a UEFA 'B' Licence. He would then return to Malawi to manage Big Bullets.
