The 1987 Badminton World Cup was the ninth edition of an international tournament Badminton World Cup. The event was held in 1987. China won titles in all disciplines except men's doubles event, which was secured by South Korea. Liem Swie King
Liem Swie King (; born 28 February 1956) is an Indonesian former badminton player who excelled from the late 1970s through the mid-1980s. He won the All England in 1978, 1979 and 1981. He was one of the world's leading singles players of his era. A world level player in men's doubles as well as men's singles, he was known for the ferocity of his jumping smash. Early life Liem was born on 28 February 1956 in Kudus Regency, Central Java. His parents were Ng Thian Poo and Oei See Moi from Putian, Fujian. He was the only son of eight children. During elementary school, he studied at Sekolah Tionghoa, and later moved to SD Negeri Dema'an II in 1965. Lee Deuk-choon
Lee Deuk-choon (Hangul: 이득춘, born 16 July 1962) is a retired male badminton player from South Korea. In 2013, he became head coach of the Korean National Badminton Team after nearly 20 years as the head coach of the Junior National Team. He replaced Kim Joong-soo, who was the acting head coach following the removal of Sung Han-kook. Lee was replaced as head coach on January 1, 2017 by Kang Kyung-jin. Gillian Margaret Clark (born 2 September 1961) is an English badminton commentator and former badminton player who specialized in doubles. Badminton career World Championships Clark won two bronze medals at the World Championships a decade apart; for women's doubles in 1983, and for mixed doubles in 1993. Olympic Games Clark competed in badminton at the 1992 Summer Olympics in women's doubles with Julie Bradbury. Steen Fladberg
Steen Fladberg is a retired male badminton player from Denmark, noted for his speed of foot, who excelled during the 1980s. Though a strong international level singles player, his biggest achievements came in doubles. Career Fladberg won the gold medal at the 1983 IBF World Championships in men's doubles with Jesper Helledie, defeating Mike Tredgett and Martin Dew 15–10, 15–10 in the final. He was a silver medalist at the same tournament in mixed doubles with Pia Nielsen. He also won at the 1986 European Badminton Championships in men's doubles with Helledie, and the 1988 European Badminton Championships in mixed doubles with England's Gillian Clark. Shi Fangjing () is a former world level women's badminton player from China. Wang Pengren () is a male former world level badminton player from China. Career He specialized in mixed doubles, winning almost all of his significant international titles partnership with Shi Fangjing. Verawaty Fajrin
Verawaty Fadjrin (; 1 October 1957 – 21 November 2021) was an Indonesian badminton player who won international titles spanning from the late 1970s to the end of the 1980s. Tall and powerful, at one time or another she played each of the three variations of the sport (singles, doubles, and mixed doubles) at the highest world level. Career During a relatively brief period as a regular singles competitor, Fadjrin won the 1980 IBF World Championships in Jakarta over fellow countrywoman Ivana Lie. She had been runner-up to Denmark's Lene Køppen at the All England Open Championships that year. She won the Southeast Asian Games title in 1981 and the Indonesia Open in 1982. Rosiana Tendean (born 25 August 1964) is an Indonesian retired badminton player. Career A doubles specialist, Tendean competed in women’s doubles with Erma Sulistianingsih at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Together, they won consecutive World Grand Prix Finals titles in 1989 and 1990, and two Indonesia Open titles in 1989 and 1992. Tendean had also won this title earlier with Ivana Lie in 1987, and in mixed doubles with Rudy Gunawan in 1990 and 1993. Rosiana and Rudy Gunawan won three Badminton World Cups in a row between 1990 and 1992, as well as the Hong Kong and Polish Opens in 1993. She won the gold medal in women's doubles together with Chung So-young at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Lin Ying (, or Lam Ying in Cantonese, born 1963) is a Chinese former badminton player and one of the most successful doubles specialists in the sport's modern history. During her 9-year career representing China's national badminton team, she won women's doubles at many world class tournaments and played on China's dominant Uber Cup teams of the 1980s. She has been nicknamed "The Chinese Queen of Doubles".
