1986–87 Edmonton Oilers Season
The 1986–87 Edmonton Oilers season was the Oilers' eighth season in the NHL, and they were coming off a heart breaking playoff loss to the Calgary Flames the year before, ending the Oilers' bid for a third-straight Stanley Cup. Edmonton won the Presidents' Trophy, as they finished with 106 points and won their sixth straight Smythe Division title. There was no postseason upset this year, as Oilers defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in the Final to win their third Stanley Cup in four years, although the Flyers did push the Finals series to seven games. As of this is the Oilers' most recent division title, making it the longest such active drought in the North American major professional sports leagues. Nevertheless, Edmonton would go on to win two more Stanley Cups over the next three seasons. The 1986–87 New Jersey Devils season was the 13th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 11, 1974, and fifth season since the franchise relocated from Colorado prior to the 1982–83 NHL season. This was the franchise's ninth consecutive season out of the playoffs. Regular season * January 22, 1987 - A snowstorm brutally hit New Jersey as the Devils were scheduled to play the Calgary Flames at the Meadowlands. The Minnesota North Stars were a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL) for 26 seasons, from 1967 to 1993. The 1986–87 Quebec Nordiques season was the Nordiques eighth season in the National Hockey League. An aspect of the Quebec Nordiques season was that it hosted Rendez-vous '87, a series of two matches consisting of NHL All-Stars versus Soviet All-Stars. Offseason Quebec had a very quiet off-season, as the only notable player movement was Alain Lemieux leaving the club as a free agent, as he signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Lemieux only appeared in seven regular season games with the Nordiques, getting no points, however, Lemieux did play in a playoff game, earning a goal and three points. He finished second in scoring on the Fredericton Express, earning 74 points.
