1986–87 United States Network Television Schedule
The 1986–87 network television schedule for the three major English language commercial broadcast networks in the United States. The schedule covers primetime hours from September 1986 through August 1987. The schedule is followed by a list per network of returning series, new series, and series cancelled after the 1985–86 season. Although Fox debuted as a fourth network effort in October 1986, the network waited until April 1987 to commence offering prime time programming, effectively deferring its first Fall programming season until September 1987. PBS, the Public Broadcasting Service, was in operation but the schedule was set by each local station. New series are highlighted in bold. All times are U.S. Eastern Time and Pacific Time (except for some live sports or events). Subtract one hour for Central, Mountain, Alaska and Hawaii-Aleutian times. Each of the 30 highest-rated shows is listed with its rank and rating as determined by Nielsen Media Research.Highest-rat ...

Married
Marriage, also called matrimony or wedlock, is a culturally and often legally recognized union between people called spouses. It establishes rights and obligations between them, as well as between them and their children, and between them and their in-laws. It is considered a cultural universal, but the definition of marriage varies between cultures and religions, and over time. Typically, it is an institution in which interpersonal relationships, usually sexual, are acknowledged or sanctioned. In some cultures, marriage is recommended or considered to be compulsory before pursuing any sexual activity. A marriage ceremony is called a wedding. Individuals may marry for several reasons, including legal, social, libidinal, emotional, financial, spiritual, and religious purposes. Whom they marry may be influenced by gender, socially determined rules of incest, prescriptive marriage rules, parental choice, and individual desire. In some areas of the world, arranged mar ...

The NBC Monday Movie
''The NBC Monday Movie'' was a television anthology series of films that debuted on February 4, 1963 (in the middle of the 1962-63 season). It was referred to as ''Monday Night at the Movies'' prior to the mid-1980s. Contrary to popular contemporary belief, the corporate initials, "NBC", were, at first, not part of the official title for the network's anthologies of old movies, and would not be for years to come. Thus, in 1964, when the show was transferred by the network's programming executives to Wednesday nights, it became ''Wednesday Night at the Movies''. And in 1965, when the program moved to Tuesdays, it became ''Tuesday Night at the Movies''. It would remain there until 1969. The name would henceforth change depending on whichever night of the week the program aired. Moreover, by 1968, there was once again a weekly ''Monday Night at the Movies'' on the air. It ran until 1997. In the latter years of ''Monday Night at the Movie's'' run, more and more made-for-TV movies ...

''Matlock'' is an American mystery legal drama television series created by Dean Hargrove, starring Andy Griffith in the title role of criminal defense attorney Ben Matlock. The show, produced by Intermedia Entertainment Company (first season only), The Fred Silverman Company, Dean Hargrove Productions (called Strathmore Productions in the first two seasons) and Viacom Productions, originally aired from March 3, 1986, to May 8, 1992, on NBC, and from November 5, 1992, to May 7, 1995, on ABC. The show's format is similar to that of CBS' ''Perry Mason'' (both ''Matlock'' and the 1980s ''Perry Mason'' television films were created by Dean Hargrove), with Matlock identifying the perpetrators and then confronting them in dramatic courtroom scenes. One difference, however, was that whereas Mason usually exculpated his clients at a pretrial hearing, Matlock usually secured an acquittal at trial from the jury. Since 1991, reruns of ''Matlock'' have been shown in syndication and on TBS, ...

It was the last of the weekly Sunday night movie showcases aired by the Big Three television networks to be canceled, outside of special event premieres and the network's previous run of the ''Hallmark Hall of Fame'' film anthology. On April 7, 2020, as part of schedule changes associated with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on television in the United States, CBS announced that it would air feature films under the ''CBS Sunday Night Movies'' banner for a five-week event in May 2020, featuring films from corporate sister Paramount Pictures. A sixth week was added to the event to fill the timeslot of the postponed 74th Tony Awards, featuring a sing-along version of '' Grease''. In September 2020, CBS announced t ...
