The Toronto Marlborough Athletic Club, commonly known as the Toronto Marlboros, was founded in 1903. The 1986–87 Chicago Blackhawks season was the 61st season of operation of the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League. Offseason The 1986–87 Chicago Blackhawks were coming off a year in which they won the Norris Division then somehow got swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Toronto Maple Leafs. At the 1986 NHL Entry Draft, the Blackhawks selected forward Everett Sanipass with their first round, 14th overall pick. Sanipass played with the Verdun Junior Canadiens of the QMJHL in the 1985–86 season, scoring 28 goals and 94 points in 67 games, while amassing 320 penalty minutes, sixth highest total in the league. Other notable players selected by the team were defenseman Frantisek Kucera and center Mike Hudson. On August 27, the Blackhawks signed defenseman Gary Nylund to a three-year contract worth approximately $620,000. Gary Kruzich (born April 22, 1965) is an American former professional ice hockey player and coach. Kruzich backstopped Bowling Green to their first (and only as of 2018) National Title in 1984, earning Tournament MOP honors and winning the longest championship game in tournament history. Career When Kruzich arrived at Bowling Green he joined a team that has won the conference title the previous year but had been passed over for the NCAA tournament when they lost their conference tournament championship in overtime. Richard Brian Pilon (born April 30, 1968) is a Canadian former ice hockey player of Métis heritage. He was drafted 143rd overall in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders. Playing as a defenceman, Pilon played for the Islanders, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues during his 15-year NHL career. He is the former coach of the Weyburn Red Wings of The SJHL. Playing career Pilon was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He made his debut in the 1988–89 season, playing 62 games, recording 14 assists and 242 penalty minutes for the New York Islanders as a left shooting defenseman.
