1986 United States Figure Skating Championships
The 1986 U.S. Figure Skating Championships was held in early February 1986 in Uniondale, New York. Medals were awarded in four colors: gold (first), silver (second), bronze (third), and pewter (fourth) in four disciplines – single skating, men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing – across three levels: senior, junior, and novice. The event was one of the criteria used to select the U.S. teams for the 1986 World Figure Skating Championships, 1986 World Championships. Uniondale, New York
Uniondale is a census-designated place (CDP), as well as a suburb in Nassau County, New York, Nassau County, New York (state), New York, on Long Island, in the Town of Hempstead, New York, Town of Hempstead. The population was 32,473 at the 2020 United States Census. Uniondale is home to Hofstra University's north campus, as well as a portion of its southern campus. The community unsuccessfully tried incorporating itself as a village in the 1970s. James Cygan
James "Jim" Cygan is an American former figure skater. He is the 1982 Nebelhorn Trophy bronze medalist, 1986 Golden Spin of Zagreb bronze medalist, and 1989 Winter Universiade silver medalist. He belonged to the Broadmoor Skating Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Beginning in the 1980–81 season, Cygan was coached by Carlo Fassi. He won the national junior men's title at the 1982 U.S. Championships, two years after becoming the U.S. novice champion. Tracey Damigella
Tracey Damigella-Lohse (born 1969) is an American former competitive figure skater. As a single skater, she is the 1985 Grand Prix International St. Gervais champion, 1987 Novarat Trophy champion, 1985 Nebelhorn Trophy silver medalist, and 1986 U.S. national pewter medalist. Personal life Tracey Damigella was born 1969 and grew up in Miramar, Florida, the daughter of Marion and Frank Damigella. She was raised with three siblings – Gail, Robert, and Toni. Her sister, Toni, competed in women's singles luge at the 1984 Winter Olympics. Damigella has a daughter, Sofia Goddard (born in 1999), with Scott Goddard, a marble granite contractor whom she married in April 1994 in Los Angeles. Audrey Tiffany Chin (born October 3, 1967) is an American figure skating coach and former competitor. She is a two-time World bronze medalist (1985–1986), a two-time Skate America champion (1983, 1986), and the 1985 U.S. national champion. Personal life Chin was born on October 3, 1967, in Oakland, California. She grew up in San Diego, California. She graduated with a BA in English from University of California, Los Angeles. Her son, Kyle Kan, was born in February 2004. Career Early career Chin won the 1981 World Junior Championships, held in December 1980 in London, Ontario, Canada. Originally trained by Mabel Fairbanks as a young child, Chin switched to Janet Champion under the recommendation of Fairbanks. Caryn Kadavy (born December 9, 1967) is an American professional figure skater and former competitor. She is the 1987 World bronze medalist and a four-time U.S. national medalist. She also competed at the 1988 Winter Olympics. Career Kadavy was born in Erie, Pennsylvania. As an amateur, she won medals at the U.S. Championships four years in a row, including silver in 1986. She won several competitions in 1985: the U.S. Olympic Festival, Skate Canada International, and the Moscow News Cup. Christopher Bowman
Christopher Nicol Bowman (March 30, 1967 – January 10, 2008) was an American figure skater. He was a two-time World medalist (silver in 1989, bronze in 1990), the 1983 World Junior champion, and a two-time U.S. national champion. He competed in two Olympic Winter Games, placing 7th in 1988 and 4th in 1992. Early years Bowman was born in Hollywood, California. Steven Rice (born May 26, 1971) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey right winger who played eight seasons in the National Hockey League in the 1990s. Rice was born in Kitchener, Ontario. Rice was drafted 20th overall by the New York Rangers in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. Tom Zakrajsek (pronounced ''Za-cry-sheck''; born December 10, 1963) is an American figure skating coach and former competitive skater. As a skater, he competed as a senior on the national level. He coaches at the Broadmoor Skating Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Skating career Zakrajsek first went skating at age 7 but did poorly. He came back to the sport three years later and started training. His training locations included Cleveland, Detroit, Cincinnati, and Denver. He was coached by Norma Sahlin for seven years. Bobby Beauchamp (born 1962) is an American former competitive figure skater. He is the 1979 World Junior silver medalist, 1983 Skate America bronze medalist, and 1983 U.S. national pewter medalist. He won the bronze medal at the 1987 World Professional Championships in Jaca, Spain. Beauchamp was raised in Culver City, California. He began skating as a nine-year-old, as a form of physical therapy, having been born with a club foot affecting his left leg.
