1986 Shell Oilers Season
The 1986 Shell Oilers season was the second season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Known as Shell Helix in the All-Filipino Conference and Formula Shell in the Third Conference. Transactions Occurrences After dropping their first two outings in the semifinals against Great Taste by one point in overtime and Ginebra, 106–113 on May 15, coach Freddie Webb decided to resign from his position. Webb was replaced by former Manila Beer coach Edgardo Ocampo. Perry Young, a Portland third round draft selection in 1985, was a late replacement for the injured Fred Reynolds and played for the Shell's last four games in the Third Conference. Freddie Webb
Freddie Nelle Webb (born November 24, 1942) is a Filipino retired basketball player and coach, former politician, and television and radio personality. Education He completed his elementary education at San Beda College and his degree in Bachelor of Arts in English at Colegio de San Juan de Letran. Personal life He is married to Elizabeth Pagaspas of Tanauan, Batangas with whom he has six children. He is the father of Hubert, Pinky, and Jason Webb. Career In basketball Webb first played for the Letran Knights (1960–1964) and became a star for the team. After college, he played in the MICAA with the YCO Painters (1965–1975) and in the PBA with the Tanduay Rhum Makers (1976–1978). He was a member of the national basketball team that participated in the 1972 Summer Olympics. Perry Young (born August 4, 1963) is an American former professional basketball shooting guard who played one season in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Chicago Bulls during the 1986–87 season. He was drafted by the Trail Blazers during the third round (61st pick overall) in the 1985 NBA draft from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Fred Reynolds (born August 20, 1960) is a retired American professional basketball player. Attended the University of Texas at El Paso from 1979–80 through 1981–82 and 1983–84, sat out of the entire 1982–83 season because of a broken leg but bounced back to become a member of the gold medal-winning United States national team in the 1983 Pan American Games, Reynolds also played for the American squad that placed second to Russia in the 1982 World Basketball championships. Dexter Wayne Shouse (born March 24, 1963) is a retired American basketball player who played college basketball at the University of South Alabama and in the NBA for the Philadelphia 76ers during the 1989-90 NBA season. Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, Shouse played basketball in the Philippines in the late 1980s for Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants and the Shell Turbo Chargers. Stewart Francis Granger (born October 27, 1961) is a Canadian former National Basketball Association (NBA) player and Canadian national team member. Though in his early years Granger grew up in Montreal, his high school years were spent attending and playing basketball at Nazareth Regional High School in Brooklyn, New York, USA. Granger won the New York State high school finals in 1979 playing for NYC-Nazareth. Edgardo Luciano Ocampo (October 5, 1938 – July 29, 1992) was a Philippines, Filipino basketball player and coach. Early life and education Ocampo was born in Pampanga, Philippines on October 5, 1938.
