1986 Kansas City Chiefs Season
The Kansas City Chiefs season was the franchise's 17th season in the National Football League and the 27th overall. It ended with a 10–6 record, the most wins for the franchise since 1971. The Chiefs clinched a wild card playoff berth, but lost to the New York Jets 35–15. Former linebacker Willie Lanier was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on August 2. On the field, the pieces started coming together for head coach John Mackovic. His offense displayed plenty of scoring punch, while the club's defense and special teams became increasingly effective. With the team sitting at 3–3, Bill Kenney replaced Todd Blackledge for the second half of the season in a game against San Diego, guiding the club to a 42–41 victory. The American Football Conference – Western Division or AFC West is one of the four divisions of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The division comprises the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, and Los Angeles Chargers. Bill Kenney
William Patrick Kenney (born January 20, 1955) is an American former quarterback who spent nine years in the National Football League with the Kansas City Chiefs from 1980 to 1988 and a former politician who spent 8 years as a Missouri State Senator. Kenney was originally drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 12th round of the 1978 NFL Draft. High school/college Kenney was born in San Francisco and graduated from San Clemente High School in 1973. He originally received a scholarship to play at Arizona State University but did not play his first year. He then transferred to small Saddleback College, where he played for one season. The Southern Illinois Salukis football program represents Southern Illinois University Carbondale in college football. The Salukis are a member of the NCAA and compete at the Division I Football Championship Subdivision level (formerly known as NCAA Division I-AA). Tom Baugh
Thomas Anthony Baugh (born December 1, 1963) in Chicago, Illinois is a former professional American football player. He was a center who played four seasons in the National Football League for two teams. A 1981 graduate of Riverside Brookfield High School, Baugh attended Southern Illinois University where he was a key member of the 1983 NCAA Division I-AA national football championship squad. Baugh was captain of the 1985 Southern Illinois Salukis and a 4th round draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 1986. In his NFL career, he played center for the Kansas City Chiefs for three seasons starting in 1986. Baugh finished his playing career in 1989 with the Cleveland Browns. The Grambling State Tigers are the college football team representing the Grambling State University. The Tigers play in NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) as a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The prominence of Grambling football is longstanding. The Appalachian State Mountaineers football team is the intercollegiate American football team representing Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Brian Joseph Jozwiak (born June 20, 1963) is a former American football offensive lineman who played college football at West Virginia University before playing professionally for the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League.
