1986 Birthday Honours
Queen's Birthday Honours are announced on or around the date of the Queen's Official Birthday in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The dates vary, both from year to year and from country to country. All are published in supplements to the London Gazette and many are conferred by the monarch (or her representative) some time after the date of the announcement, particularly for those service people on active duty. Queen's Birthday Honours
The Birthday Honours, in some Commonwealth realms, mark the reigning British monarch's official birthday by granting various individuals appointment into national or dynastic orders or the award of decorations and medals. The honours are presented by the monarch or a viceregal representative. The Birthday Honours are one of two annual honours lists, along with the New Year Honours. All royal honours are published in the relevant gazette. History Honours have been awarded with few exceptions on the sovereign's birthday since at least 1860, during the reign of Queen Victoria. There was no Birthday Honours list issued in 1876, which brought "a good deal of disappointment" and even rebuke for the Ministry of Defence. Andrew Derbyshire
Sir Andrew George Derbyshire FRIBA (7 October 1923 – 3 March 2016) was a British architect. He was a senior partner, later Chairman, and following retirement, President, of the architectural practice Robert Matthew Johnson-Marshall (RMJM) and Partners, under the original named-partner architects. He was knighted in 1986. Derbyshire had taken degrees at Queens' College, University of Cambridge, and at the Architectural Association, London, before realising, as principal architect with RMJM, the master-planning and designing of the University of York campus in Heslington (from 1962), said to be his chef d'oeuvre. Other works included the Castle Market in Sheffield. Regius Professor Of History (Oxford)
The Regius Professor of History at the University of Oxford is a long-established professorial position. Holders of the title have often been medieval historians. The first appointment was made in 1724. The term "Regius" reflects the origins of the post as a royal appointment, itself a recognition of the important influence of history. The Regius Professor of History is '' ex officio'' a Fellow of Oriel College. Michael Howard (historian)
Sir Michael Eliot Howard (29 November 1922 – 30 November 2019) was an English military historian, formerly Chichele Professor of the History of War, Honorary Fellow of All Souls College, Regius Professor of Modern History at the University of Oxford, Robert A. Lovett Professor of Military and Naval History at Yale University, and founder of the Department of War Studies, King's College London. In 1958, he co-founded the International Institute for Strategic Studies. Howard was described in the ''Financial Times'' as "Britain's greatest living historian". Arcadia Group Ltd (formerly Arcadia Group plc and, until 1998, Burton Group plc) was a British multinational retailing company headquartered in London, England. It was best known for being the previous parent company of British Home Stores (BHS), Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Debenhams, Evans, Miss Selfridge, Topman, Topshop, Wallis and Warehouse. Sir John Marcus Fox MBE (11 June 1927 – 16 March 2002) was a British Conservative Party politician. He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Shipley from 1970 to 1997. He was chairman of the 1922 Committee between 1992 and 1997. Also known as "the Shipley strangler" for his influence and career killing power as Chairman of the 1922 Committee. Sir Christopher David Foster (30 October 1930 – 18 February 2022) was a British academic at the University of Oxford and MIT, a professor of economics at the London School of Economics, a consultant at Coopers & Lybrand and PricewaterhouseCoopers, and a temporary civil servant. Biography Foster was born in London on 30 October 1930. He was educated at Merchant Taylors' School, Northwood and King's College, Cambridge, where he read History and Economics. Christian Salvesen was a Scottish whaling, transport and logistics company with a long and varied history, employing 13,000 staff and operating in seven countries in western Europe.
