The 1985 Tirreno–Adriatico was the 20th edition of the Tirreno–Adriatico cycle race and was held from 7 March to 13 March 1985. The race started in Santa Marinella and finished in San Benedetto del Tronto. The race was won by Joop Zoetemelk of the Kwantum team. Joop Zoetemelk
Hendrik Gerardus Joseph "Joop" Zoetemelk (; born 3 December 1946) is a Dutch former professional racing cyclist. He started and finished the Tour de France 16 times, which were both records when he retired. He also holds the distance record in Tour de France history with 62,885 km ridden. He won the 1979 Vuelta a España and the 1980 Tour de France. He finished the Tour in 8th, 5th, 4th (three times) and 2nd (six times) for a total of eleven top 5 finishes which is also a record. He was the first rider to wear the Tour de France's Polka Dot Jersey as the King of the Mountains and even though he never won this classification in the Tour de France, he did win it in the 1971 Vuelta a España and was considered one of the best climbers of his generation. Theo de Rooij (born 25 April 1957 in Harmelen) is a retired Dutch former bicycle racer and former manager of the Rabobank cycling team - a position from which he resigned after the 2007 Tour de France. De Rooij was a professional rider from 1980 to 1990. He started his career in Belgian teams and the last eight years of his careers he served teams managed by Peter Post. He currently lives in Holten. Biography De Rooij won several stages in the Tour de Suisse, the Tour of Germany and the Ronde van Nederland. He took part in nine editions of the Tour de France. Niki Rüttimann
Niki Rüttimann (born 18 August 1962 in Untereggen) is a Swiss former road bicycle racer. Ruttiman was one of the most important domestiques of the La Vie Claire teams of the mid 1980s. In the 1984 Tour de France he finished 11th overall riding in support of Bernard Hinault who placed 2nd. During the 1985 Tour de France as well as the 1986 Tour de France he was right there between Hinault and Greg LeMond as they battled for Tour victories both years. He finished 13th in 1985 and 7th in 1986 while also winning stage 14. In 1987 he won a stage in the Tour de Romandie and a stage in the Critérium du Dauphiné and went into the Tour supporting Jean-François Bernard being as Hinault had retired and LeMond was recovering from a gunshot wound. Johan Lammerts (born 2 October 1960 in Bergen-op-Zoom, North Brabant) is a retired road bicycle racer from the Netherlands, who was a professional rider from 1982 to 1992. Gianbattista Baronchelli
Gianbattista Baronchelli (born 6 September 1953) is an Italian retired professional road racing cyclist (1974–1989). He obtained a total of 94 victories. Baronchelli was born in Ceresara, in the Province of Mantua. In 1973, as an amateur, he won the Tour de l'Avenir and the Baby Giro, and he was thought destined to win the Giro d'Italia. Although he knew the director of the Molteni team, they did not sign him, as they already had Eddy Merckx as their team captain, so Baronchelli signed a contract at the SCIC team. He was overall second at the Giro d'Italia in 1974 and 1978, and third in 1977. His other main accomplishments were a silver medal at the 1980 World Championships and two victories at the Giro di Lombardia (1977 and 1986). Baronchelli started in the Tour de France twice, in 1976 and 1979, but both times did not finish the race. He won the Giro dell'Appenino six times in succession from 1977 to 1982. Acácio Mora da Silva (born 2 January 1961 in Montalegre, Portugal) is a Portuguese former professional road bicycle racer. He was a professional from 1982 to 1994 during which he won stages in the Tour de France, the Giro d'Italia and stages in many other stage races.
