The 1985 Texas Tech Red Raiders football team represented Texas Tech University as a member of the Southwest Conference (SWC) during the 1985 NCAA Division I-A football season. In their fifth and final season under head coach Jerry Moore, the Red Raiders compiled a 4–7 record (1–7 against SWC opponents), outscored opponents by a combined total of 249 to 240 (largely on the strength of a 63-7 victory over TCU), and finished in eighth place in the conference. The Southwest Conference (SWC) was an NCAA Division I college athletic conference in the United States that existed from 1914 to 1996. Composed primarily of schools from Texas, at various times the conference included schools from Oklahoma and Arkansas. For most of its history, the core members of the conference were Texas-based schools plus one in Arkansas: Baylor University, Rice University, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech University, the University of Arkansas and the University of Texas at Austin. History The two schools first met in 1957, with Arkansas defeating Texas Tech by a score of 47–26 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
