The 1984–85 Associate Members' Cup, known as the 1984–85 Freight Rover Trophy, was the second staging of the Associate Members' Cup, a knock-out competition for English football clubs in the Third Division and the Fourth Division. Barry Knowles
James Barry Knowles (born 25 April 1959) is an English former footballer who played as a full-back. He most notably played for Wigan Athletic between 1984 and 1988, and was part of the team that won the Football League Trophy in 1985. Knowles started his career at Southport, making 15 league appearances for the club. He then moved on to Runcorn, winning the Northern Premier League with the club. He signed for Wigan from Barrow in October 1984. He was part of the team that won the Freight Rover Trophy in 1985. After retiring, he worked as a youth coach at Blackpool. Keith Millen
Keith Derek Millen (born 26 September 1966) is an English football manager and former player who played as a centre back. He was most recently manager of Carlisle United. Millen was appointed as Steve Coppell's successor, after Coppell chose to resign from Bristol City and retire from football. Millen spent most of his professional career at Brentford, where he reached the Associate Members' Cup final in 1985, and won the Football League Third Division in 1992. After leaving Brentford in 1994, he finished his playing career with Watford and Bristol City. Following retirement, Millen remained at City as a member of the coaching staff. Jamie Murray (footballer)
James Gerald Murray (born 27 December 1958) is a Scottish retired professional footballer who played as a left back in the Football League for Cambridge United, Brentford and Sunderland. He was described by ''Cambridge News'' as "one of the greatest left backs to have featured" for Cambridge United. Danis Mahmut Mehmet Salman ( tr, Danış Salman; born 12 March 1960), sometimes known as Danny Salman, is a Turkish Cypriot-born English former professional footballer and coach, best remembered for his time as a defender in the Football League with Brentford. Gary Phillips (footballer)
Gary Christopher Phillips (born 20 September 1961) is a footballer coach and former player who played as a goalkeeper. He is academy head of goalkeeping at Watford. Phillips started his career as a schoolboy at Southampton before moving to non-League Chalfont St Peter in 1978. He moved to Brighton & Hove Albion the same year. Phillips joined West Bromwich Albion in 1979, but failed to make an appearance and decided to sign for Barnet in 1981. Eventually he was sold to Brentford for £5,000. He then joined Reading, where he was loaned out to Barnet and Hereford United. Phillps permanently rejoined Barnet in 1989, where he became player-manager in 1993. Bryan Hamilton (born 21 December 1946) is a Northern Irish former professional football player and manager. He gained 50 caps for Northern Ireland between 1969 and 1980, and later managed the national team for four years. Paul Jewell
Paul Jewell (born 28 September 1964) is an English football manager and former player, who was most recently director of football at Swindon Town. Jewell began his playing career with Liverpool, continued at Wigan Athletic and concluded in a ten-year spell with Bradford City, apart from a short loan spell with Grimsby Town. When his playing career ended, he became part of the coaching staff at Bradford City. Jewell was appointed manager in 1998 and took City to the Premier League before resigning and becoming manager of Sheffield Wednesday. Warren Aspinall (born 13 September 1967) is an English former footballer who played as a midfielder or forward in the Football League, most notably for Portsmouth and Carlisle United. Gary Michael Bennett (born 20 September 1963) is an English retired professional footballer. He played for six different clubs in the Football League, with the majority of appearances being made for Chester City and Wrexham. Playing career Early playing career Bennett began his football career playing for Skelmersdale United and his local team Kirkby Town. Kevin James Langley (born 24 May 1964) is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He made 427 appearances in the Football League, including a club record 317 for Wigan Athletic. Graham Barrow (born 13 June 1954) is an English former footballer who has since become a professional manager in the English game.
