1985 European Amateur Team Championship
The 1985 European Amateur Team Championship took place from 26 to 30 June at Halmstad Golf Club, in Tylösand, Sweden. It was the 14th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Venue The tournament was played at the club's North course. The club was founded in 1930. Its first 18-hole course, located in Tylösand, Halmstad Municipality, 9 kilometers west of Halmstad city center in Halland County, Sweden, was constructed by Rafael Sundblom and approved in 1938. A new course was inaugurated in 1967. Together with the last nine holes of the old course, this formed the new course, called the North Course. Format Each team consisted of six players, playing two rounds of an opening stroke-play qualifying competition over two days, counting the five best scores each day for each team. Halmstad Municipality
Halmstad Municipality (''Halmstads kommun'') is a municipality in Halland County on the Swedish west coast, in which the city Halmstad is the seat. The 1971 local government reform was implemented gradually in the area. In 1967 the rural municipality ''Simlångsdalen'' (created in 1952) was amalgamated into the ''City of Halmstad''. The city was converted into a municipality of unitary type in 1971, but the seven surrounding municipalities were not merged into it until 1974. Marc Pendariès (born 26 June 1966) is a French professional golfer who is a former member of the European Tour. Career Pendariès had an impressive amateur career which included winning the French Junior National Championship three times, the Orange Bowl (Junior World Championship), and the 1985 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship with the Houston Cougars men's golf team. He was runner-up at the 1983 Boys Amateur Championship at Glenbervie Golf Club, Scotland, losing the final to José María Olazábal. He represented France at the 1982 Eisenhower Trophy and at the European Amateur Team Championship in 1983, 1985 and 1987. In 1987 he won the Swedish International Stroke Play Championship at Ullna Golf Club, one stroke ahead of Luis Carbonetti of Argentina. Peter McEvoy
Peter Aloysius McEvoy OBE (born 22 March 1953) was a leading British amateur golfer for many years, and is now a golf course designer, golf administrator, and golf writer. Early life McEvoy was born in London, but spent much of his childhood living near Turnberry where his father was a member of the famous links course. Even after moving back to London, he was able to play at the famous course. Playing highlights McEvoy won The Amateur Championship in both 1977 and 1978, which kicked off an impressive amateur golf career. He was a member of the Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup team five times between 1977 and 1989. He also played on five Eisenhower Trophy teams, including 1988 when he won the individual event and GB&I won the team event. Major General John Craig Lawrence (born 18 October 1963), known as Craig Lawrence or J. C. Lawrence, is a retired British Army officer whose last appointment was as the Director of Joint Warfare at the Directorate of Joint Warfare. He is now an author and lecturer at the Royal College of Defence Studies. Lawrence was educated at St Peter's School, York and Durham University, where he read engineering. Commissioned into the 2nd King Edward VII's Own Gurkha Rifles (The Sirmoor Rifles), he joined this unit in 1987 after finishing university. John Hawksworth (golfer)
John Frederick Hawksworth (born 27 March 1961) is a retired professional golfer who played on the European Tour between 1986 and 2000. Hawksworth had a successful amateur career during which he won the Lytham Trophy in 1984. He was a member of the Great Britain and Ireland team in the 1985 Walker Cup alongside Colin Montgomerie and David Gilford, after which he turned professional. He did not go on to enjoy the same success as a professional as his former teammates, revisiting the European Tour's qualifying school on many occasions where he only twice managed to regain full playing rights.
