1984–85 Yugoslav First Basketball League
The 1984–85 Yugoslav First Basketball League season was the 41st season of the Yugoslav First Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in SFR Yugoslavia. Regular season Classification Playoff Only the top four placed league table teams qualified for the playoffs quarterfinal automatically. Teams placed fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth were joined by the top two Second League teams for an 8-team play-in round. The winner of each best-of-three series advanced to the playoffs quarterfinal round. Yugoslav First Basketball League
The First Federal Basketball League () was the highest tier level men's professional club basketball competition in SFR Yugoslavia. Founded in 1945 and folded in 1992 (1991-92 Winer Broker YUBA League), it was run by the Basketball Federation of Yugoslavia. With a total of 16 European-wide trophy winners and 11 finalists, the Yugoslav First Basketball League was one of the strongest European national domestic basketball leagues of all time. Although each of the former Yugoslav countries have their own national domestic leagues, the six nations also now take part in the ABA League (commonly known as the Adriatic League), which was founded in 2001; and which is, the closest basketball league in existence today, that is similar to the former Yugoslav Basketball League. Mihovil Nakić
Mihovil Nakić-Vojnović (born 31 July 1955) is a Croatian former professional basketball player. Standing at , he played as a small forward. Club career Nakić spent most of his club career in Cibona, which he helped win back-to-back EuroLeague titles in 1985 and 1986, as well as the Saporta Cup in 1987, always supporting his great teammate, Dražen Petrović. He also won the 1982 Saporta Cup with Cibona. He was nominated for the EuroLeague's 50 Greatest Contributors list in 2008. The 1985–86 FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup was the twentieth edition of FIBA's 2nd-tier level European-wide professional club basketball competition, contested between national domestic cup champions, running from 1 October 1985, to 18 March 1986. It was contested by 22 teams, two more than in the previous edition. Defending champions FC Barcelona, defeated Scavolini Pesaro in the final, which was held in Caserta, to win its second trophy. 1985–86 FIBA European Champions Cup
The 1985–86 FIBA European Champions Cup was the 29th edition of the FIBA European Champions Cup club competition (now called EuroLeague). The Final was held at the Sportcsarnok in Budapest, Hungary, on April 3, 1986. It was won by Cibona for the second time in a row. They defeated Žalgiris in the finals, by a result of 94–82. Competition system * 25 teams (European national domestic league champions, plus the then current title holders), playing in a tournament system, played knock-out rounds on a home and away basis. The aggregate score of both games decided the winner. * The six remaining teams after the knock-out rounds entered a Semifinal Group Stage, which was played as a round-robin. Željko Pavličević
Željko Pavličević (born 26 March 1951) is a Croatian professional basketball coach and former player. He currently serves as the head coach for ASEAN Basketball League Eastern Long Lions. Early life Pavličević began playing basketball in 1969 for the junior team of Lokomotiva in the city of Zagreb. He was studying at the Faculty of Chemical Technology at the basketball school. Coaching career Cibona Having passed all the categories in the club, (cadets, juniors etc.) in 1975, Pavličević became Mirko Novosel's assistant coach in the senior team of Cibona (until then WIT). Franjo Arapović
Franjo Arapović (born 2 June 1965) is a Croatian former professional basketball player who played as a center. A tall, he won the silver medal with the Croatia national team at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Four years earlier he was a member of the Yugoslavia national team, that won the silver medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Arapović was born in Mostar, SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, SFR Yugoslavia. Zoran Čutura
Zoran Čutura (born 12 March 1962 in Zagreb) is a former Croatian basketball player. After ending his professional basketball career he started working as a sports journalist and columnist. Professional career Čutura started playing basketball in his hometown Zagreb. His first club was the second division club Industromontaža where he spent three years. Sven Ušić
Sven Ušić (born 19 August 1959) is a former Croatian professional basketball player and basketball coach, coach. At a height of 2.01 m (6'7") tall, he played as a small forward. Career Ušić started his career in his native Pula, playing for KK Gradine Pula. He moved to Cibona in 1976, and initially found tough competition in the club. One night, at the beginning of his time at Cibona, Ušić was locked in the locker room by mistake before the game. Ušić started warming up for the game between the locker room's benches, and somebody soon came back for him. He entered the game and played well, shooting 12 times and hitting every time. After the game, coach Mirko Novosel jokingly told him that he would lock him up before every game. Ušić has stated that he was helped a lot by Mirko Novosel, who noticed him and brought him to Zagreb.
