Fabian Joseph
Fabian Gerard Joseph (born December 5, 1965) is a Canadian retired ice hockey centre. He is most prominent for his role with the Canadian national ice hockey team in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He is a winner of two Winter Olympic Silver medals. He was Captain of Team Canada at the Lillehammer Olympic games in 1994. After playing hockey, Joseph continued his career, notably coaching the men's ice hockey team at Dalhousie University. Ice hockey career Joseph had moderate success in the amateur leagues by scoring 127 points for the Victoria Cougars of the WHL in 1984. Subsequently, Joseph was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs 109th overall in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. In 1985, he joined the Canadian national team. Joseph never actually played in the NHL. After his time on the national team, Joseph joined the Nova Scotia/Cape Breton Oilers (an affiliate with the Edmonton Oilers) in 1988. The Quebec Nordiques (french: Nordiques de Québec, pronounced in Quebec French, in Canadian English; translated "Quebec City Northmen" or "Northerners") were a professional ice hockey team based in Quebec City. The New Jersey Devils are a professional sports, professional ice hockey team based in Newark, New Jersey. The 1984–85 Hartford Whalers season was the Whalers' sixth season in the National Hockey League. Offseason On May 29, the Whalers acquired defenseman Brad Shaw from the Detroit Red Wings for an eighth round draft pick in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. Shaw played with the Ottawa 67's during the 1983–84 season, scoring 12 goals and 78 points in 63 games. Shaw also participated with Canada at the 1984 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, where he had two assists in seven games. Shaw was a fifth round draft pick for Detroit at the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. On June 9, Hartford selected defenseman Sylvain Cote in the first round, 11th overall pick, at the 1984 NHL Entry Draft held at the Montreal Forum. The Hartford Whalers were a professional ice hockey team based for most of its existence in Hartford, Connecticut. The club played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1972 until 1979, and in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1979 to 1997. The 1984–85 Winnipeg Jets season was the 13th season of the Winnipeg Jets, sixth season in the National Hockey League. The Jets tied an NHL record for most 30-goal scorers in a season (6) (first accomplished by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1974-75 season, and equaled by the NY Islanders in the 1977-78 season) and placed second in the Smythe Division to qualify for the playoffs. The Jets defeated the Calgary Flames three games to one in the first round, but lost to the defending and eventual Stanley Cup champion Edmonton Oilers in the second round in a four game sweep. The Buffalo Sabres are a professional ice hockey team based in Buffalo, New York.
