1984–85 American Indoor Soccer Association Season
The 1984–85 American Indoor Soccer Association season was the inaugural season of the AISA. The league began with six teams, all based in the Midwest. Canton won the regular season by five games. Lesh Shkreli of Columbus ran away with the scoring title, and also won the MVP vote. Canton coach Klaas de Boer took home Coach of the Year honors. Louisville upset Columbus with a semifinals-sweep, and faced Canton in the finals. In the championship round, the Invaders handled the Thunder in four games. Tony Johnson (soccer)
Tony Johnson is a retired American soccer forward who played professionally in the American Soccer League, United Soccer League, American Indoor Soccer Association, Lone Star Soccer Alliance and the Southwest Indoor Soccer League. Johnson began high school at Buies Creek High School before the school was consolidated into Harnett Central High School in 1977. He graduated in 1979 after finishing runner up for the North Carolina High School Soccer Player of the Year. He attended UNC Chapel Hill where he played on the men's soccer team from 1979 to 1982. He graduated in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in communications. In 2005, he was inducted into the North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame. Forward (association Football)
Forwards (also known as attackers) are outfield positions in an association football team who play the furthest up the pitch and are therefore most responsible for scoring goals as well as assisting them. As with any attacking player, the role of the forward relies heavily on being able to create space for attack. Midfielder
A midfielder is an outfield position in association football. Midfielders may play an exclusively defensive role, breaking up attacks, and are in that case known as defensive midfielders. Keith Tozer
Keith Tozer is a retired American soccer player who played professionally in the Major Indoor Soccer League, American Soccer League and American Indoor Soccer Association. He is currently the commissioner of the Major Arena Soccer League. Player College Tozer grew up in upstate New York. After graduating from high school, he attended Oneonta State from 1975 to 1979, where he played as a forward on the men's soccer team. He finished his four seasons at Oneonta with the school's all-time points record of 117 points off 50 goals and 17 assists. Mike Noonan
Michael Noonan (June 30, 1961) is a retired American soccer player who played professionally in the American Indoor Soccer Association and is currently the head coach of the Clemson University men's soccer team. Playing career Noonan attended Middlebury College, playing on the men's soccer team from 1979 to 1982. He was a 1981 and 1982 Division III NCAA First Team All American. Noonan played for the Louisville Thunder in the American Indoor Soccer Association. In 1986, he signed with the Fort Wayne Flames where he spent two seasons. In 2017, Noonan was inducted into the Middlebury College Athletics Hall of Fame for his playing time there. Tom Alioto
Tom Alioto (born May 20, 1958 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is a retired American soccer defender who played in the North American Soccer League, Major Indoor Soccer League and American Indoor Soccer Association. Player Both Tom Alioto and his twin brother Tim both played extensively as youth players with the Milwaukee Bavarians. Alioto also played soccer for Madison University High School. In 1980, Tom signed with the Chicago Sting in the North American Soccer League for the 1980–81 indoor season. In 1982, he moved to the Oklahoma City Slickers in the American Soccer League. Oscar Pisano
Oscar Pisano (born 3 September 1956) is a retired Argentine football defender who went on to become a football manager. Pisano spent time in numerous North American indoor and outdoor leagues including the North American Soccer League, Major Indoor Soccer League, American Soccer League, American Professional Soccer League and Canadian National Soccer League. Sepp Gantenhammer
Joseph "Sepp" Gantenhammer is a retired United States of America, American soccer goalkeeper (association football), goalkeeper who played professionally in the MISL I, Major Indoor Soccer League and the American Indoor Soccer Association. While still regularly known as "Joe" at the time, Gantenhammer played collegiately at LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, Long Island University. He was taken early in the second round of the North American Soccer League (1968–84), North American Soccer League draft with the 33rd overall pick by the Washington Diplomats.
