This is a list of events in British radio during 1984. Events *During the first half of 1984, the BBC conducts five trials of community stations in Greater Manchester. Each trial, which covers a specific area of Greater Manchester, lasts for a few weeks, broadcasts only on MW and operates for a few hours each day, opting out of BBC Radio Manchester. January *8 January – Simon Bates begins his second stint as host of BBC Radio 1's Sunday teatime Top 40 programme. *20 January – BBC Radio 2 makes changes to its schedule and following the decision not to renew the contract of long standing presenter Ed Stewart, the year-long revival of ''Music While You Work'' ends. Greater Manchester

David Jacobs (broadcaster)
David Lewis Jacobs, CBE (19 May 1926 – 2 September 2013) was a British broadcaster perhaps best known as presenter of the BBC Television 1960s peak-time show ''Juke Box Jury'', and as chairman of the long-running BBC Radio 4 topical forum ''Any Questions?'' Earlier radio work included small acting parts: over the years he played himself or presenter characters in film, television and radio productions. Jacobs finally stepped down as a BBC Radio 2 presenter shortly before his death in August 2013, his career having spanned more than 65 years. David Jensen
David Allan "Kid" Jensen (born 4 July 1950) is a Canadian-born British radio DJ and television presenter. Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Jensen began as a radio DJ on Radio Luxembourg. Jensen was later a broadcaster for the BBC from 1976 to 1984, as a host on BBC Radio 1 and presenter on the TV music programme ''Top of the Pops'' from 1977 to 1984. Jensen has also hosted and presented for Capital FM and ITV among other stations. Early career Born into a Danish-origin family residing in Victoria, British Columbia, Jensen began his career in his home country at the age of sixteen playing jazz and classical music on CJOV-FM, in Kelowna, on a show called Music For Dining, which was sponsored a lot of the time by a number of local funeral parlours. The Network Chart Show
''The Commercial Radio Chart Show'' is a radio programme that was broadcast across commercial adult contemporary and contemporary hit radio stations across the United Kingdom, from 30 September 1984 to 30 December 2018. It had many different names over the years, beginning with simply ''The Network Chart Show'' in 1984 (later sponsored by Nescafé), before securing sponsorship with Pepsi between 1993 and 2003, which led to the birth of ''The Pepsi Chart''. Since then, it has been known as '' Hit40UK'', '' The Big Top 40 Show'', ''The Vodafone Freebees Big Top 40'', ''The Vodafone Big Top 40'' and, finally, ''The Official Vodafone Big Top 40'' between October 2017 and December 2018. Radio 1's Weekend Breakfast Show
''Radio 1's Weekend Breakfast Show'' is a radio show that is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 on weekends. It is currently hosted by Adele Roberts, who took over since January 2021. ''Weekend Breakfast'' was an extension of ''Radio 1 Breakfast'' which, before June 2018, aired on weekdays from 6:30 to 10am, while the weekend show aired on Saturdays and Sundays. In June 2018 Radio 1 decided to incorporate the Friday breakfast show into the station's weekend schedule, using the weekend presenters. In November 2020, the BBC announced changes to the Radio 1 schedules, meaning Matt Edmondson and Mollie King would move from weekend breakfast to weekend afternoons to replace Dev, who left the station in December 2020, and that the weekend breakfast show would only be broadcast on weekends. Tony Blackburn
Anthony Kenneth Blackburn (born 29 January 1943) is an English disc jockey, singer and TV presenter. He first achieved fame broadcasting on the pirate stations Radio Caroline and Radio London in the 1960s, before joining the BBC, on the BBC Light Programme. He was the first disc jockey to broadcast on BBC Radio 1 at its launch, on 30 September 1967, and has had several stints working for the corporation. He has also worked for Capital London and Classic Gold Digital, and currently BBC Radio 2, BBC Local Radio, and British Forces Broadcasting Service. He has also had a singing career. In 2002 Blackburn was the first winner of the British reality TV series '' I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!'' John Timpson
John Harry Robert Timpson, (2 July 1928 – 19 November 2005) was a British journalist, best known as a radio presenter.
