1984 United States Presidential Election In New Jersey
The 1984 United States presidential election in New Jersey took place on November 6, 1984. All 50 states and the District of Columbia, were part of the 1984 United States presidential election. Voters chose 16 electors to the Electoral College, which selected the president and vice president. New Jersey was won by the Republican nominees, incumbent President Ronald Reagan of California and incumbent Vice President George H.W. Bush of Texas. Reagan and Bush defeated the Democratic nominees, former Vice President Walter Mondale of Minnesota and his running mate Congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro of New York. Reagan carried New Jersey with 60.09% of the vote to Mondale’s 39.20%, a margin of 20.89%. Reagan also swept nearly every county in the state. Gus Hall (born Arvo Kustaa Halberg; October 8, 1910 – October 13, 2000) was the General Secretary of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) and a perennial candidate for president of the United States. Dennis Serrette
Dennis Louis Serrette (September 8, 1940 - March 7, 2024) was an activist for civil rights and labor rights. He also was the New Alliance Party candidate for United States President in the 1984 presidential election. Biography Serrette was born September 8, 1940 in Harlem, New York, where he was one of eleven children. As a late teen, Serrette joined the labor movement. During the Vietnam war era, he served with the U.S. Air Force. Serrette has been a union activist since 1964, and was a founding member of the Communication Workers of America (CWA) Black Caucus in 1971. In 1972 he became one of nineteen founding members of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, which advocated for the rights of minority workers. Its immediate precursor was an umbrella organization known as the Labor Community Alliance for Change, whose member groups included the Coalition of Grass Roots Women and the New York City Unemployed and Welfare Council.
