Denis Watson
Denis Leslie Watson (born 18 October 1955) is a professional golfer from Zimbabwe. Early life and amateur career Born in Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe) Watson was educated at Oriel Boys High School, Chisipite. He represented Rhodesia at the 1974 Eisenhower Trophy in the Dominican Republic, in the same team as Mark McNulty, George Harvey and Teddy Webber. The team finished 14th and Watson best Rhodesian player. In August 1975, Watson, together with George Harvey, represented Rhodesia at El Rincon Golf Club in Bogotá, Colombia, among 18 two-man nation teams, competing for the Coupa El Rincon over 72 holes stroke-play. The Rhodesian team won, ten strokes ahead of Sweden, and Watson won individually on a score of 7-under par 281, five strokes ahead of Jan Rube, Sweden. David Edwards (golfer)
David Wayne Edwards (born April 18, 1956) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour from 1979–2005 and now plays on the Champions Tour. He is the younger brother of former PGA Tour professional, Danny Edwards. Edwards was born in Neosho, Missouri. He attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma and was a distinguished member of the golf team — a first-team All-American his junior and senior years. Edwards and teammate, Lindy Miller, led the Cowboys to the 1976 and 1978 NCAA Championships. Edwards was the individual medalist at the 1978 tournament in his senior year. He turned pro later that same year and joined the PGA Tour in 1979. Ben Crenshaw
Ben Daniel Crenshaw (born January 11, 1952) is a retired American professional golfer who has won 19 events on the PGA Tour, including two major championships: the Masters Tournament in 1984 and 1995. He is nicknamed ''Gentle Ben''. Professional career Born in Austin, Texas, Crenshaw attended and played golf at Austin High School and the University of Texas, where he won three NCAA Championships from 1971 to 1973. Crenshaw was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity; he turned professional in 1973. 1984 Masters Tournament
The 1984 Masters Tournament was the 48th Masters Tournament, held April 12–15 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Ben Crenshaw won the first of his two major titles, both Masters, two strokes ahead of runner-up Tom Watson, the winner in 1977 and 1981. The leader after 36 holes was Masters rookie Mark Lye at 135 (−9), three strokes ahead of Tom Kite. Play was halted near the end of the third round due to thunderstorms and the final groups completed it on Sunday morning. After 54 holes, Kite led at 207 (−9) and Lye was a stroke back. Crenshaw was two strokes back at 209 and shot a final round 68 (−4) to slip on his first green jacket. He won again eleven years later in 1995. Andy Bean
Thomas Andrew Bean (born March 13, 1953) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour. Bean has won numerous tournaments at both the amateur and professional level. Bean won 11 PGA Tour victories, including the 1986 Byron Nelson Golf Classic, and three wins on the Champions Tour, including a 9-stroke victory at the 2008 Charles Schwab Cup Championship. Early years Bean was born in LaFayette, Georgia in 1953, and raised in Jekyll Island, Georgia, where his father was associated with a golf course. Greater Greensboro Open
The Wyndham Championship is a professional golf tournament in North Carolina on the PGA Tour. It is played annually in Greensboro and was originally the Greater Greensboro Open. History Founded in 1938 as the Greater Greensboro Open, it was usually played in April or May, until a schedule change in 2003 moved it toward the end of the season. At the age of 52, Sam Snead set PGA Tour records in 1965 for his eighth win at an event and as the oldest winner of a tournament; both records still stand. Frederick Steven Couples (born October 3, 1959) is an American professional golfer who has competed on the PGA Tour and the PGA Tour Champions. The 1984 Tournament Players Championship was a golf tournament in Florida on the PGA Tour, held March 29 to April 1 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, southeast of Jacksonville. It was the eleventh Tournament Players Championship. Fred Couples, age 24, shot a course record 64 in the second round, and finished at 277, one stroke ahead of runner-up It was his second win on tour, and he won this championship twelve years later in Trevino, the champion in 1980 at adjacent Sawgrass Country Club, had missed the cut at the previous two editions, the first two held at the new venue. Bob Eastwood
Robert Fred Eastwood (born February 9, 1946) is an American professional golfer who has won numerous amateur and professional tournaments. Eastwood was born in Providence, Rhode Island, but spent most of his youth in north-central California. He started playing golf at age 4 as a result of his father being in the golf business. He helped his family construct ''Dry Creek Ranch Golf Club'' near Sacramento in the 1960s. During the 1960s, Eastwood served in the Army and was stationed in Korea. During this same decade he also attended San Joaquin Delta Community College and San Jose State University in San Jose, California. He turned pro in 1969. The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is a professional golf tournament in Louisiana on the PGA Tour, currently held at TPC Louisiana in Avondale, a suburb southwest of New Orleans. Beginning in 1938 and held annually since 1958, it is commonly played in early to mid-spring. Zurich Insurance Group is the main sponsor, and it is organized by the Fore!Kids Foundation. First prize reached five figures in 1965, six figures in and passed the million-dollar mark in 2006. The winning team in 2022 split over $2.39 million. Bay Hill Classic
The Arnold Palmer Invitational is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour. It is played each March at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge, a private golf resort owned since 1974 by Arnold Palmer in Bay Hill, a suburb southwest of Orlando, Florida. The event was founded in 1979 as a successor to the Florida Citrus Open Invitational, which debuted in 1966 and was played at Rio Pinar Country Club, east of Orlando, through 1978. Arnold Palmer won the Florida Citrus Open in 1971. Since 1979, the tournament title has had a number of different names, most of them including "Bay Hill," but has played under the Palmer name since 2007. Tom Kite
Thomas Oliver Kite Jr. (born December 9, 1949) is an American professional golfer and golf course architect. He won the U.S. Open in 1992 and spent 175 weeks in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Ranking between 1989 and 1994. Career Kite was born in McKinney, Texas. He began playing golf at age six, and won his first tournament at age 11. Kite attended the University of Texas on a golf scholarship and was coached by Harvey Penick. He turned professional in 1972 and has been a consistent money winner ever since. Known for his innovation, he was the first to add a third wedge to his bag, one of the first players to use a sports psychologist, and one of the first to emphasize physical fitness for game improvement.
