American Football
American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The offense, the team with possession of the oval-shaped football, attempts to advance down the field by running with the ball or passing it, while the defense, the team without possession of the ball, aims to stop the offense's advance and to take control of the ball for themselves. The offense must advance at least ten yards in four downs or plays; if they fail, they turn over the football to the defense, but if they succeed, they are given a new set of four downs to continue the drive. Points are scored primarily by advancing the ball into the opposing team's end zone for a touchdown or kicking the ball through the opponent's goalposts for a field goal. Tony Casillas
Tony Steven Casillas (born October 26, 1963) is a former American football defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) from 1986 through 1997. While at the University of Oklahoma he helped win the 1985 NCAA National Championship. He also won the Lombardi Award in 1985 and was the 1985 UPI Lineman of the Year. Casillas was also part of the Dallas Cowboys back to back victories in Super Bowl XXVII and XXVIII, both against the Buffalo Bills. In 2004, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Early years Casillas, of Mexican and Cherokee descent, was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on October 16, 1963. He attended Tulsa East Central High School where he was an All-State player. Rod Brown (gridiron Football)
Rod Brown (born October 6, 1963) is a former American football defensive back who played two seasons with the Ottawa Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football at Oklahoma State University. Brown was also a member of the Denver Broncos and Dallas Texans. College career Brown played for the Oklahoma State Cowboys from 1981 to 1984. He was a consensus All-American in 1984 after recording fifty tackles, six interceptions, eight pass deflections, one sack and one fumble recovery. Bret Clark
Bret Clark (born February 24, 1961) is a former professional American football player. Clark played for the in-state Nebraska Cornhuskers football team, for whom he was an All-American defensive back during his senior year of 1984. After college, he played one season with the United States Football League's Tampa Bay Bandits, then started at safety for three seasons with the National Football League's Atlanta Falcons. A serious and chronic knee injury ended his professional football career in 1988. Bret Clark is also known for effectively ending the existence of the Tampa Bay Bandits. Clark took the Bandits to arbitration over back pay owed to him. While Clark won the case, the Bandits did not have the funds available to pay him back, so a judge ordered that the team's remaining assets be confiscated to repay the debt to Clark. Brian Keith Bosworth (born March 9, 1965), nicknamed "The Boz," is an American former football linebacker and actor who played in the National Football League (NFL) for three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. Rodney Harding
Rodney Harding (born August 1, 1962) was a defensive lineman in the Canadian Football League. Harding played college football at Oklahoma State University. He had a 12-year career in the Canadian Football League from 1985 to 1996, and he played mainly with the Toronto Argonauts, but ended his career with seasons at the Memphis Mad Dogs and Calgary Stampeders. Leslie O'Neal
Leslie Claudis O'Neal (born May 7, 1964) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive end and outside linebacker for 13 years in the National Football League (NFL). He spent the majority of his career with the San Diego Chargers before finishing with the St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs. He was a three-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowl selection during his pro career. O'Neal was a two-time All-American playing college football with the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Scott Strasburger (born February 14, 1963) is a former American football defensive end. He played college football at the University of Nebraska. Early years Strasburger attended Holdrege High School, where he was a starter at defensive end and was named All-state as a senior. He walked-on at the University of Nebraska. As a true sophomore, he was a backup right defensive end behind All-Big Eight selection Tony Felici. He made 31 tackles and 6 sacks. His most famous play came in the eleventh game against Oklahoma University, intercepting a pass late in the fourth quarter that he returned 22 yards to the opponent's one yard in the final 30 seconds of the game, helping the team clinch a 28-24 victory and win the Big Eight Conference Championship. Big Eight Conference
The Big Eight Conference was a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)-affiliated Division I-A college athletic association that sponsored football. It was formed in January 1907 as the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MVIAA) by its charter member schools: the University of Kansas, University of Missouri, University of Nebraska, and Washington University in St. Louis. Additionally, the University of Iowa was an original member of the MVIAA, while maintaining joint membership in the Western Conference (now the Big Ten Conference). Mark Gerald Behning (born September 26, 1961) is a former American football player who played three seasons in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an offensive lineman 1985-1987. He is currently a senior project manager for Golden Sands General Contractors. Early life Behning was born in Alpena, Michigan and attended Denton High School in Denton, Texas, where he was named all-state in football in 1979.
