1983–84 Yugoslav First Basketball League
The 1983–84 Yugoslav First Basketball League season was the 40th season of the Yugoslav First Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in SFR Yugoslavia. Regular season Classification Results Source: Playoff Teams placed 1st to 6th at the end of the regular season automatically qualified for the playoffs quarterfinal round. The remaining two spots for the playoffs quarterfinal round were determined through a four-team play-in. The 7th and 8th-placed teams had to play a single-game round against the Second League 2nd and 1st-placed teams, respectively, that managed to gain promotion for the next season's top league competition. Seventh-placed Partizan from the First League thus played 2nd-placed Sloga Kraljevo from the Second League. Yugoslav First Basketball League
The First Federal Basketball League () was the highest tier level men's professional club basketball competition in SFR Yugoslavia. Founded in 1945 and folded in 1992 (1991-92 Winer Broker YUBA League), it was run by the Basketball Federation of Yugoslavia. With a total of 16 European-wide trophy winners and 11 finalists, the Yugoslav First Basketball League was one of the strongest European national domestic basketball leagues of all time. Although each of the former Yugoslav countries have their own national domestic leagues, the six nations also now take part in the ABA League (commonly known as the Adriatic League), which was founded in 2001; and which is, the closest basketball league in existence today, that is similar to the former Yugoslav Basketball League. 1984–85 FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup
The 1984–85 FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup was the nineteenth edition of FIBA's 2nd-tier level European-wide professional club basketball competition, contested between national domestic cup champions, running from 2 October 1984, to 19 March 1985. It was contested by 20 teams, four less than in the previous edition. FC Barcelona, runner-up in the 1983–84 edition of the Spanish Cup, was assigned the berth of the previous year's winner, Real Madrid, who would participate in that season's FIBA European Champions Cup instead. In the final, held in Grenoble, FC Barcelona defeated Žalgiris, to win their first European trophy. It was the second title in a row for a Spanish League team. 1984–85 FIBA European Champions Cup
The 1984–85 FIBA European Champions Cup was the 28th season of the FIBA European Champions Cup club competition (now called EuroLeague). It was the first season of the competition that included the 3 point field goal. The Final was held at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus, Greece, on April 3, 1985. Cibona won its first title, defeating Spanish side, Real Madrid, by a result of 87–78. Competition system * 25 teams (European national domestic league champions, plus the then current title holders), playing in a tournament system, played knock-out rounds on a home and away basis. Mirko Novosel
Mirko Novosel (born 30 June 1938) is a Croatian former professional basketball coach and player. Novosel coached some of the greatest players in former Yugoslavia and Croatia, such as Croatian Hall of Fame players Krešimir Ćosić and Dražen Petrović. He was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, as a coach, on 7 September 2007. He was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame, as a coach, in 2010. Franjo Arapović
Franjo Arapović (born 2 June 1965) is a Croatian former professional basketball player who played as a center. A tall, he won the silver medal with the Croatia national team at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Four years earlier he was a member of the Yugoslavia national team, that won the silver medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Arapović was born in Mostar, SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, SFR Yugoslavia. Zoran Čutura (born 12 March 1962 in Zagreb) is a former Croatian basketball player. After ending his professional basketball career he started working as a sports journalist and columnist. Professional career Čutura started playing basketball in his hometown Zagreb. His first club was the second division club Industromontaža where he spent three years. Aleksandar Petrović (basketball, Born February 1959)
Aleksandar "Aco" Petrović (; born 16 February 1959) is a Croatian professional basketball coach and former player who is currently the head coach of the Croatia men's national team. Playing career A point guard or shooting guard, Petrović had achieved prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The pro clubs he played for included: Šibenka, Cibona, Scavolini Pesaro, Novi Zagreb and Racing Luxembourg. He was among the 105 player nominees for the 50 Greatest EuroLeague Contributors list.
