Serie C1
Serie C1 was the third highest football league in Italy. It consisted of 36 teams, divided geographically into two divisions. History Before the 1978–79 season, there were only three professional football leagues in Italy, the third being Serie C. The league menaging the C was also organizing the semi-professional Serie D. In 1978, it was decided to split the Serie C into Serie C1 (the third highest league) and Serie C2, moving the remnants of the Serie D to the amatorial sector as Campionato Interregionale. Upon its inception in 1978–79, Serie C1 consisted of two groups of 18 teams, with two promotions and four relegations. During the season, teams only played the other teams in their division, according to the round robin method. Play-offs were introduced in 1992, together with the 3-victory-points rule. Società Polisportiva Ars et Labor, commonly referred to by the acronym SPAL (), is a professional football club based in Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. During the 2024–25 season the team played in Serie C, the third tier of the Italian football league system. Ternana Calcio, commonly referred to as Ternana, is an Italian football club based in Terni, Umbria and currently compete in the Serie C. The club was founded in 1925 and refounded in 1993. Unione Sportiva Salernitana 1919 is an Italian professional football club based in Salerno, Campania. The original club was founded in 1919 and has been reconstituted three times in the course of its history, most recently in 2011. The current club is the heir of the former ''Salernitana Calcio 1919'', and it restarted from Serie D in the 2011–12 season. Cosenza Calcio 1914 was a professional Italian football club based in Cosenza, Calabria. It starts in 1926 when was founded Cosenza Foot-Ball Club (the year 1914 is a reference to the first historic match played by the club on 23 February 1914). The club was expelled from the professional leagues in 2003, only readmitted a year later in Serie D. In 2005 the club folded, ended its 91 years of history. From 2003 to 2007 A.S. Cosenza Calcio claimed as the successor, which was relocated from nearby town. S.S.D. Casarano Calcio is an Italian association football club located in Casarano, Apulia. It currently plays in Serie D. History The club was founded in 1927, playing also in Serie C for 20 seasons.
