The 1983–84 Balkans Cup was an edition of the Balkans Cup, a football competition for representative clubs from the Balkan states. Since no clubs from Albania, Greece, or Yugoslavia entered, Group B was scratched and Beroe Stara Zagora, the winners of Group A, were awarded the trophy. Balkans
The Balkans ( ), also known as the Balkan Peninsula, is a geographical area in southeastern Europe with various geographical and historical definitions. The region takes its name from the Balkan Mountains that stretch throughout the whole of Bulgaria. The Balkan Peninsula is bordered by the Adriatic Sea in the northwest, the Ionian Sea in the southwest, the Aegean Sea in the south, the Turkish Straits in the east, and the Black Sea in the northeast. The northern border of the peninsula is variously defined. The highest point of the Balkans is Mount Musala, , in the Rila mountain range, Bulgaria. The concept of the Balkan Peninsula was created by the German geographer August Zeune in 1808, who mistakenly considered the Balkan Mountains the dominant mountain system of Southeast Europe spanning from the Adriatic Sea to the Black Sea. Stara Zagora ( bg, Стара Загора, ) is the sixth-largest city in Bulgaria, and the administrative capital of the homonymous Stara Zagora Province. Name The name comes from the Slavic root ''star'' ("old") and the name of the medieval region of Zagore ("beyond the alkanmountains" in Slavic) The original name was Beroe, which was changed to Ulpia Augusta Traiana by the Romans. Fatih Terim (born 4 September 1953) is a Turkish association football manager and former player. He is the former manager of Galatasaray, a position he previously held four times. Terim has managed several clubs in Italy (Milan and Fiorentina) and Turkey, as well as the Turkish national football team, most recently from 2013 to 2017. Cüneyt Tanman (born 16 January 1956, in Istanbul) is a Turkish former footballer who played as a centre-back. He made 17 appearances for the Turkey national team. With the exception of the 1975–76 season where he was loaned to Giresunspor, Tanman player for Galatasaray during his football career. He played between 1974 and 1991 and used to play most positions for the team. He played 533 games for Galatasaray, most of them as the team captain. He won the Turkish title in 1987 and 1988. Plamen Lipenski ( bg, Пламен Липенски) (born 30 March 1960) is a Bulgarian former football player, and currently manager/fitness coach. He was part of the Bulgarian national team. Constantin Ignat (born November 18, 1958) is a Romanian former footballer and head coach. Career Ignat played in the Divizia A in 1976 with FC Farul Constanța. In 1980, he played with FC Argeș Pitești, and featured in the 1980–81 UEFA Cup, and 1981–82 UEFA Cup. In 1992, he played abroad in the Canadian Soccer League with Winnipeg Fury.
