The 1983 Embassy World Indoor Bowls Championship was held at the Coatbridge indoor bowling club, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, 8–13 February 1983. Bob Sutherland Bob Sutherland (1942-1997) was a former Scottish lawn and indoor bowler. Sutherland was born on 21 May 1942 and was a member of the Bathgate outdoor bowls club and West Lothian indoor bowls club. Sutherland was signed by Glasgow Rangers in 1959 ... won the title beating Burnham Gill in the final 21-10. David Bryant defeated Clive White 21–11 in the third place play off. Coatbridge ( sco, Cotbrig or Coatbrig, gd, Drochaid a' Chòta) is a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, about east of Glasgow city centre, set in the central Lowlands. Along with neighbouring town Airdrie, Coatbridge forms the area known as the Monklands (population approximately 90,000 including outlying settlements), often considered to be part of the Greater Glasgow urban area – although officially they have not been included in population figures since 2016 due to small gaps between the Monklands and Glasgow built-up areas. In the last years of the 18th century, the area developed from a loose collection of hamlets into the town of Coatbridge.
