The 1983 New Zealand rugby league season was the 76th season of rugby league that had been played in New Zealand. International competitions New Zealand drew a series with Australia 1-all and defeated Papua New Guinea 60–20. The 1982 New Zealand rugby league season was the 75th season of rugby league that had been played in New Zealand. International competitions New Zealand toured Australia and Papua New Guinea. Gordon Smith (rugby League)
Gordon Smith is a New Zealand former rugby league footballer who represented New Zealand. Playing career From the Waro-rakau club in the West Coast Rugby League competition, Smith represented both the West Coast and the South Island before being selected to play for the New Zealand national rugby league team in 1979. Smith would play in 14 Test matches between 1979 and 1983. In 1982 Smith signed with Hull Kingston Rovers in the English competition and remained with the club until 1988, scoring 80 points for the club. Graeme Leonard West (born 5 December 1953) is a New Zealand former rugby league footballer and coach. Standing at six-foot, five inches, he played in the forwards, captaining English club Wigan Warriors. West also played representative rugby league for New Zealand and is the father of Super League player, Dwayne West.
