1983 NAIA World Series
The 1983 NAIA World Series was a double-elimination tournament to determine the baseball champion of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The tournament was held at Chaparral Stadium on the campus of Lubbock Christian College in Lubbock, Texas from May 30 through June 6. The Lubbock Christian Chaparrals won the tournament, the team's first NAIA baseball championship. Double Elimination
A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost ''two'' games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only ''one'' defeat results in elimination. One method of arranging a double-elimination tournament is to break the competitors into two sets of brackets, the ''winners' bracket'' and ''losers' bracket'' (''W'' and ''L'' brackets for short; also referred to as ''championship bracket'' and ''elimination bracket'', ''upper bracket'' and ''lower bracket'', or ''main bracket'' and ''repechage'') after the first round. The first-round winners proceed into the W bracket and the losers proceed into the L bracket. The W bracket is conducted in the same manner as a single-elimination tournament, except that the losers of each round "drop down" into the L bracket. Jim Mallon
James Joseph Mallon (born March 19, 1956) is an American television and film producer and writer, most notable for being executive producer of the Peabody Award-winning series ''Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K)''. He is also president of the series' original production company, Best Brains, Best Brains, Inc., directed more than 75 episodes of ''MST3K'', and played the role of Gypsy (Mystery Science Theater 3000), Gypsy from the first season until the middle of the eighth season. Early career and education A native of Rochester, Minnesota, Mallon began producing television and comedy movies while still in high school, and continued while attending the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
