The Division of Fadden is an Australian Electoral Division in Queensland. Geography Since 1984, federal electoral division boundaries in Australia have been determined at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by the Australian Electoral Commission. Redistributions occur for the boundaries of divisions in a particular state, and they occur every seven years, or sooner if a state's representation entitlement changes or when divisions of a state are malapportioned. History The division was created in 1977 and is named after Sir Arthur Fadden, Prime Minister of Australia in 1941. When it was created it included a large area south of Brisbane, from the far south of the city to the Gold Coast hinterland, and was a marginal seat that changed hands between the Liberal Party and Australian Labor Party. This is a list of by-elections for the House of Representatives from its creation in 1901 until the present day. Casual vacancies in the House of Representatives arise when a member dies, is disqualified or resigns, or for some other reason the seat becomes vacant. Members normally resign by tendering resignation to the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Casual vacancies are filled by by-elections. The Speaker has a discretion as to when to call a by-election and may not call one at all, for example, if a general election is imminent. At least 33 days must elapse between the issue by the Speaker of a writ and the date of a by-election, and the Speaker cannot issue the writ until receipt of a formal letter of resignation. Psephos: Adam Carr's Electoral Archive is an online archive of election statistics, and claims to be the world's largest online resource of such information. Psephos is maintained by Dr Adam Carr, of Melbourne, Australia, a historian and former aide to Australian MP Michael Danby and Senator David Feeney. It includes detailed statistics for presidential and legislative elections from 182 countries, with at least some statistics for every country that has what Carr considers to be genuine national elections. "Psephos" is a Greek word meaning "pebble", a reference to the Ancient Greek method of voting by dropping pebbles into urns, and is the root of the word psephology, the study of elections. The Division of Griffith is an electoral division for the Australian House of Representatives. The division covers the inner southern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland. History The division is named after Sir Samuel Griffith, former politician and a principal author of the Constitution of Australia. Griffith was created in 1934, replacing the seat of Oxley which had been established in 1900. Terri Butler retained the seat for Labor at the 2014 Griffith by-election on 8 February, caused by the resignation of the previous member, former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, who held the seat from 1998 until his resignation in November 2013. Donald Milner Cameron Order of Australia, AM (born 6 February 1940) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Brisbane, and educated at the Anglican Church Grammar School and the University of Queensland. He became a junior corporate executive and then industrial officer for the Australian Association of Employers of Waterside Labour. He joined the Liberal Party of Australia, and in 1966, aged 26, he won the marginal seat of Division of Griffith, Griffith in inner Brisbane, and held it against determined challenges from the Australian Labor Party until 1977, when a redistribution nearly erased his majority there. He then shifted to the safer seat of Division of Fadden, Fadden. In the big swing to Labor at the 1983 election Cameron was defeated, but he was re-elected shortly after at a by-election for the seat of Division of Moreton, Moreton, which he held until 1990, when he was again defeated.
