Eliot Teltscher
Eliot Teltscher (born March 15, 1959) is a retired professional American tennis player. He won the 1983 French Open Mixed Doubles. His highest ranking in singles was #6 in the world and in doubles was #38 in the world. Tennis career Early years Teltscher was born in Palos Verdes, California and lives in Irvine, California. His mother was born in Mandatory Palestine, and his father Eric, of Austrian descent, was a Holocaust survivor who immigrated to Mandatory Palestine and joined the British military, ultimately becoming an industrial engineer. He began playing tennis when he was nine, and by the time he was 17, he was ranked in the top ten in the United States junior rankings. The 1983 Volvo Grand Prix was a professional tennis circuit held that year. It incorporated the four grand slam tournaments, the Grand Prix tournaments, and two team tournaments (the Davis Cup and the World Team Cup. Japan Open (tennis)
The Japan Open (currently sponsored by Rakuten) is a men's tennis tournament held in Ariake Tennis Forest Park with its center court Ariake Coliseum, located in Koto, Tokyo, Japan. It was originally founded in 1915 as the Japan International Championships. In 2018, the venue switched to the Musashino Forest Sports Plaza as the Ariake Coliseum is being renovated for the tennis events at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The championship includes men's singles and doubles competitions. From 1979 until 2008 the Japan Open was a joint tournament for both men and women. This is no longer the case in the aftermath of the Ariake Coliseum hosting another women's professional tournament, the Pan Pacific Open. On the women's side, the Japan Open was held until 2008 on the WTA Tour, and then it was downgraded to a $100,000+H ITF Women's Circuit event. In 2010, the women's event was discontinued. Micki Schillig
Micki Schillig Feldmann (born 29 November 1960) is an American former professional tennis player. Biography Schillig comes from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and was a three-time state high school singles champion, before going on to play for San Diego State University (SDSU). During her time at SDSU she was an All-American on three occasions and as a junior in 1982 finished runner-up to Alycia Moulton in the inaugural NCAA singles championship. From 1983 to 1986 she competed on the professional tour, appearing in the main draws of Wimbledon and the US Open. Schillig's only grand slam win came earlier while she was still an amateur, at the 1982 US Open, where she upset highly ranked opponent Leslie Allen in the first round. Helena Konanz (née Manset) is an American tennis player and Canadian politician. College career Manset attended UCLA for her undergraduate. In 1982, Manset as well as her partner Kathy O'Brien were defeated in the finals of the NCAA Women’s Doubles and in 1982 and 1983 she was named as an All-American. She graduated from UCLA in 1984 with a degree in political science. Professional career After being narrowly defeated in the NCAA Women's Doubles Finals Manset began to compete professionally. Timothy Ernest Gullikson (September 8, 1951 – May 3, 1996) was a tennis player and coach who was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin and grew up in Onalaska, Wisconsin in the United States. Gullikson was Pete Sampras' coach from 1992 to 1995. Tennis career In 1977, he won three tour singles titles and was named the ATP's Newcomer of the Year. During his career as a tennis player, Gullikson won 15 top-level doubles titles, ten of them partnering with his identical twin brother, Tom Gullikson. The brothers were runners-up in the Men's Doubles competition at Wimbledon in 1983. Rochelle "Shelley" Solomon (June 19, 1963 – October 7, 2014) was a professional tennis player from the United States. Biography Born in Washington, D.C., she was the younger sister of tennis player Harold Solomon. From the age of 11 she lived in Florida, where her father Leonard operated a car‐rental business. She attended The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and was a member of their 1981 national championship winning team, and graduated magna cum laude. His son, Emilio Gómez, is a professional tennis player. The 1983 Virginia Slims World Championship Series was the 13th season since the foundation of the Women's Tennis Association. It commenced on January 3, 1983, and concluded on March 4, 1984, after 64 events. The Virginia Slims World Championship Series was the elite tour for professional women's tennis organised by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). It was held in place of the WTA Tour from 1983 until 1987 and featured tournaments that had previously been part of the ''Toyota Series'' and the ''Avon Series''. The circuit consisted of 48 tournaments in nine countries, including the four Grand Slam tournaments, and culminated in the season-ending Virginia Slims Championships played in February 1984. The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) is the governing body of the men's professional tennis circuits – the ATP Tour, the ATP Challenger Tour and the ATP Champions Tour.
