1983 Girabola
The 1983 Girabola was the fifth season of top-tier football competition in Angola. Petro de Luanda were the defending champions. The league comprised 14 teams, the bottom three of which were relegated. Estrela Clube Primeiro de Maio were crowned champions, winning their 1st title, while Académica do Lobito, Andorinhas do Sumbe and Construtores de Malanje were relegated. Joseph Maluka of Primeiro de Maio finished as the top scorer with 17 goals. Girabola
Girabola, or ''Campeonato Nacional de Futebol em Séniores Masculinos'', is the top division of Angolan football. It is organized by the Angolan Football Federation. The league winner and runner-up qualify for the CAF Champions League. Girabola ZAP In January 2016, Angolan subscription TV satellite and cable provider ZAP, the Angolan Football Federation and the Girabola clubs, signed a three-year deal in which ZAP will have broadcast rights over all Girabola matches. As part of the deal, the Angolan state-owned TV station TPA will be allowed to broadcast one game per week on its free-view platform. Also as part of the deal, the Girabola changes its denomination to Girabola ZAP. Jesús (footballer)
Osvaldo Fernando Saturnino de Oliveira (born 14 January 1956), commonly known as Jesús, is an Angolan former football player and coach who played as a striker. He mainly played for Petro de Luanda and the Angola national team, having also moved to Portugal at Varzim and Oliveirense. Club career Jesús played youth football for Clube Atlético de Luanda; he then began playing professionally in 1974 for local club Luanda, before moving to Benfica de Luanda and Terra Nova. Jesús played over 10 years for Petro de Luanda. He was top goalscorer of the Girabola three times with them, in 1982, 1984 and 1985. In 1988, he moved to Portugal to play for Varzim aged 32, with whom he played two seasons. Jesús then played one season for Oliveirense, retiring in 1990. Managerial career Jesús was appointed interim coach of Petro de Luanda, following the death of coach Gojko Zec, helping them win the league title in 1995. Daniel Ndunguidi Gonçalves, better known as Daniel Ndunguidi or simply Ndunguidi, (born 1956) is a former Angolan football player. Ndunguidi, whose career peaked in the 1980s while playing for Primeiro de Agosto as a forward, is widely considered Angola's most prominent football player, following independence. His fame and talent is only matched by that of Petro Atlético's José Saturnino de Oliveira aka "Jesus". In 1979, an attempt by Sporting Clube de Portugal to sign him was barred for political reasons as was another attempt by Benfica de Portugal in 1990. On November 30th 1991, a farewell match was played between Primeiro de Agosto and Petro de Luanda, in honour of Ndunguidi and ''Jesus" Saturnino. Vata Matanu Garcia
Vata Matanu Garcia (born 19 March 1961), known simply as Vata, is a retired Angolan footballer who played as a striker. He spent most of his professional career in Portugal, most notably at Benfica. Club career Born in Damba, Uíge Province, Vata started his football career at Progresso Associação do Sambizanga. After a good run in Portugal with Varzim SC, he caught the eye of Primeira Liga club S.L. Benfica, signing with them for 1988–89 and being crowned the season's top scorer in his first year. In the following campaign's European Cup campaign, Vata achieved his most (in)famous moment: after the 1–2 defeat at Olympique de Marseille in the semifinals, he scored from a left-side corner kick, putting the ball in the net with his right arm as Benfica won on the away goals rule with that single goal. Own Goal
An own goal, also called a self goal, is where a player performs actions that result in them or their team scoring a goal on themselves, often resulting in a point for the opposing team, such as when a football player kicks a ball into their own net or goal, awarding the other team a point. In some parts of the world, the term has become a metaphor for ''any'' action that backfires on the person or group undertaking it, sometimes even carrying a sense of "poetic justice". During The Troubles, for instance, it acquired a specific metaphorical meaning in Belfast, referring to an IED (improvised explosive device) that detonated prematurely, killing the person making or handling the bomb with the intent to harm others.
