1983 CFL Draft
The 1983 CFL Draft composed of eight rounds where over 72 Canadian football players were chosen from eligible Canadian universities and Canadian players playing in the NCAA. A total of nine players were selected as territorial exemptions, with every team but Montreal making at least one selection during this stage of the draft. 1983 CFL Season
The 1983 CFL season is considered to be the 30th season in modern-day Canadian football, although it is officially the 26th Canadian Football League season. CFL News in 1983 The CFL re-signed with Carling O'Keefe Breweries to another record television contract worth $33 million to cover a three-year period from 1983 to 1986. The BC Lions opened their new stadium, BC Place this season, and with it, introduced shorter endzones to its stadium (20 yards in length as opposed to the then-standard 25 yards). This was because the floor of the stadium was too short to accommodate the 25 yard endzones; the shorter endzone length would become standard in the CFL three years later, in 1986. The league's attendance levels reached an all-time high for all football games with 2,856,031. Queen's Golden Gaels
The Queen's Gaels (also known as the Queen's Golden Gaels) is the Athletics program representing Queen's University at Kingston in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Team colours are blue, red, and gold. The main athletics facilities include Richardson Memorial Stadium, the Queen's Athletics and Recreation Centre, Nixon Field and Tindall Field. Queen's teams have had a variety of successes both provincially and nationally. Their most recent U SPORTS National Championship was awarded to the Women's Rugby program, who hoisted the Monilex Trophy on home soil at Nixon Field in 2021. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are a professional Canadian football team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Blue Bombers compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member club of the league's West division. They play their home games at IG Field. The Blue Bombers were founded in 1930 as the Winnipeg Rugby Football Club, later changed to the Winnipeg Football Club, which is the organization's legal name. The Blue Bombers are one of three community owned teams, without shareholders, in the CFL. The Cal Poly Mustangs are the football team representing California Polytechnic State University located in San Luis Obispo, California. The team plays its home games at Mustang Memorial Field, at the NCAA Division I FCS level in the Big Sky Conference. The current head coach is Paul Wulff, who began his tenure in December 2022. History Football was first played on the Cal Poly campus in 1916. Saskatchewan Huskies Football
The Saskatchewan Huskies football team represents the University of Saskatchewan in U Sports football that competes in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association conference of U Sports. The program has won the Vanier Cup national championship three times, in 1990, 1996 and 1998. The Huskies became only the second U Sports team to advance to three consecutive Vanier Cup games, after the Saint Mary's Huskies, but lost all three games from 2004-2006. The team has won the most Hardy Trophy titles in Canada West, having won a total of 21 times. The 2006 Huskies became only the third team to play in a Vanier Cup that their school was hosting, when the University of Saskatchewan hosted the 42nd Vanier Cup. Scott Redl
Scott Redl (born July 19, 1961) is a former Canadian football offensive lineman who played seven seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He was drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders as a territorial exemption in the 1983 CFL Draft. He played CIS football at the University of Saskatchewan and attended Evan Hardy Collegiate in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Redl was also a member of the BC Lions. He is the younger brother of fellow CFL player Doug Redl. Early years Redl played high school football for the Evan Hardy Collegiate Souls. He helped the team win several provincial football championships. College career Redl played CIS football for the Saskatchewan Huskies. He earned Outstanding Lineman honors his final two seasons and was a Western Intercollegiate Football League All-Star his senior year. The Saskatchewan Roughriders are a professional Canadian football team based in Regina, Saskatchewan. Mike Hudson (Canadian Football)
Michael Hudson (born February 6, 1967) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played in the National Hockey League between 1988 and 1997. Playing career Hudson grew up playing hockey in his hometown of Guelph, Ontario before advancing to Major Junior Hockey with the Hamilton Steelhawks and Sudbury Wolves. Hudson played for seven NHL teams. At the age of 30 Hudson traveled overseas to play in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga for the Adler Mannheim settling there for two years before retiring in 1999. In 416 NHL games Hudson recorded 49 goals and 87 assists for 136 career points.
