1982–83 Liverpool F.C. Season
The 1982–83 season was Liverpool Football Club's 91st season in existence and their 21st consecutive season in the First Division. After winning the title previous season, Liverpool F.C. regained and won their fourteenth league title. They also won the Football League Cup for the third successive season beating Manchester United 2-1 at Wembley Stadium. However, Liverpool did not regain the European Cup, having been knocked out by Widzew Łódź in the quarter-finals and surprisingly being knocked out by Brighton & Hove Albion in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Liverpool lost 5 of their last 7 league games and drew the other two, yet they finished the season eleven points ahead of the second-placed Watford. Sammy Lee (footballer)
Samuel Lee (born 7 February 1959) is an English professional football coach and former player. Lee played most of his career for hometown club Liverpool during the 1970s and 1980s as a midfielder, and also represented England national football team, England fourteen times. He also had playing spells at Queens Park Rangers F.C., Queens Park Rangers, CA Osasuna, Osasuna, Southampton F.C., Southampton, and Bolton Wanderers F.C., Bolton Wanderers. Craig Johnston
Craig Peter Johnston (born 25 June 1960) is a South African-born Australian former professional footballer. He played as a midfielder in the English Football League between 1977 and 1988, winning the European Cup, five league titles and an FA Cup (scoring in the 1986 final) with Liverpool. Nicknamed "Skippy", Johnston was a crowd favourite at Anfield, making 271 Liverpool appearances and scoring 40 goals. He was a key member of the 1986 "double" winning team. Mark Lawrenson
Mark Thomas Lawrenson (born 2 June 1957) is a former professional footballer who played as a defender for Liverpool, among others, during the 1970s and 1980s. Alan Kennedy
Alan Kennedy (born 31 August 1954) is an English former professional footballer who played the majority of his career as a left back for Newcastle United and then Liverpool. He was a stalwart member of the latter team that won many honours from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. Phil Thompson
Philip Bernard Thompson (born 21 January 1954) is an English retired footballer, who played as a defender for Liverpool team of the 1970s and 1980s. During this time, he also represented the England national football team on 42 occasions, and captained England on six occasions. John McGregor (footballer Born 1963)
John McGregor (born 5 January 1963 in Airdrie) is a former professional footballer. Career McGregor started his career at Queen's Park after signing from Bargeddie Amateurs. He went on to make over a hundred appearances for the ''Spiders'', becoming a mainstay in the side for over three seasons. He then joined English side Liverpool. He stayed five years on Merseyside making no appearances for the 1st team. McGregor returned to Glasgow with Rangers. He joined the club on a free transfer in 1987 and made his debut on 8 August 1987 in a 1–1 draw at home to Dundee United. Alan David Hansen (born 13 June 1955) is a Scottish former footballer and BBC television football pundit. He played as a central defender for Partick Thistle, for the successful Liverpool team of the late 1970s and 1980s, and for the Scotland national team. As a football pundit, Hansen became known for his outspoken views, particularly on teams' defensive performances, frequently criticising what he believed was "diabolical" or "shocking" defending. Phil Neal
Philip George Neal (born 20 February 1951) is an English retired footballer who played for Northampton Town, Liverpool and Bolton Wanderers as a full back. He is one of the most successful English players of all time, having won seven First Divisions, four League Cups, five FA Charity Shields, four European Cups, one UEFA Cup and one UEFA Super Cup during his eleven years at Liverpool. He later returned to Bolton Wanderers as manager, leading them to victory in the Football League Trophy before spells managing Coventry City, Cardiff City and Manchester City. Bruce David Grobbelaar (born 6 October 1957) is a Zimbabwean former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper, most prominently for English team Liverpool between 1981 and 1994, and for the Zimbabwean national team. He is remembered for his gymnastic-like athletic ability, unflappable confidence and eccentric and flamboyant style of play, as well as his rushing ability, which has led pundits to compare him retrospectively to the sweeper-keepers of the modern era.
