1982 Texas Longhorns Baseball Team
The 1982 Texas Longhorns baseball team represented the University of Texas at Austin in the 1982 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Longhorns played their home games at Disch–Falk Field. The team was coached by Cliff Gustafson in his 15th season at Texas. The Longhorns reached the College World Series, finishing fourth with wins over Oklahoma State and Stanford and losses to eventual champion Miami (FL) and runner-up Wichita State. Cliff Gustafson
Cliff Gustafson (February 12, 1931 – January 2, 2023) was an American high school and college baseball coach who was, for twenty-nine seasons, the head coach of the Texas Longhorns, representing the University of Texas at Austin. Early life Gustafson was a native of Kenedy, Texas. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and played college baseball for the Texas Longhorns, including the 1952 team that won the Southwest Conference championship and reached the College World Series. Gustafson posted a .308 batting average for his collegiate career and went on to play professional baseball. TCU Diamond was a ballpark located on the campus of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, and was the home of the TCU Horned Frogs baseball program for four decades. The ballpark hosted 1,480 TCU baseball games over 41 years; in the time the Horned Frogs posted an overall 867–605–8 home record. San Antonio Missions
The San Antonio Missions are a Minor League Baseball team of the Texas League and the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. They are located in San Antonio, Texas, and are named for the Spanish missions around which the city was founded. The Missions play their home games at Nelson W. Outfielder
An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases. As an outfielder, they normally play behind the six players located in the field. By convention, each of the nine defensive positions in baseball is numbered. The outfield positions are 7 (left field), 8 (center field) and 9 (right field).
