1982 NBL Finals
The 1982 NBL Finals was the postseason tournament of the National Basketball League's 1982 season, which began in February. The finals began on 16 July. The tournament concluded with the West Adelaide Bearcats defeating the Geelong Cats in the NBL Grand Final on 18 July. Format The NBL finals series in 1982 consisted of two semi-final games, and one championship-deciding grand final. The finals were contested between the top four teams of the regular season, with the finals weekend hosted at the neutral Newcastle Sports Entertainment Centre in Newcastle, New South Wales. James Crawford (basketball)
James Crawford (born April 13, 1960) is an American former professional basketball player who played in the Australian National Basketball League from 1982 to 2003. School Crawford was born in Lower Peach Tree, Alabama, and attended Pine Hill High School in Pine Hill, Alabama. Prior to coming to Australia in 1981, Crawford attended Livingston University and Cumberland College in Kentucky. Professional career During his NBL career, the "Alabama Slamma" played for the Geelong Supercats (1982–1985), the Canberra Cannons (1986, 2003) and the Perth Wildcats (1987–1999). He played in a total of 504 NBL games, 371 of them for the Wildcats and currently sits third on the list of all time NBL scorers with 11,121 points, scoring at an average of 22.1 per game. Ray Wood (basketball)
Raymond Ernest Wood (11 June 1931 – 7 July 2002) was an English professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Representing Manchester United, he played in the 1956 and 1957 Football League championship-winning teams. Known for his pace and agility, Wood had the opportunity to be a professional sprinter, but opted instead to play football. He played for England at international level on three occasions between 1954 and 1956 and, after retiring from playing in 1968, managed football clubs in the US, Cyprus, Greece, Kenya and the United Arab Emirates. Craig Herbert (basketball)
Craig Justin Herbert (born 9 November 1975) is an English footballer who plays as a defender for Barwell. Career Herbert began his career as an apprentice with Torquay United, but was one of five trainees who left Plainmoor under a cloud on 23 February 1994. The following month he signed for West Bromwich Albion, the Baggies paying Torquay a fee of £10,000 with another £6,000 due after 20 first team appearances and 15% of any future sell-on fee, even though he had never appeared in the Gulls first team. However, the additional fees never transpired as he played just eight league games for West Brom and was released on a free transfer at the end of the 1996–97 season. Leroy Loggins (born 20 December 1957) is an Australian-American former professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball League (NBL) from 1981 until 2001. College career Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Loggins attended Fairmont State University in Fairmont, West Virginia, and was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in the 8th round of the 1980 NBA draft. Ray Borner OAM (born 27 May 1962) is an Australian former basketball player who competed in the National Basketball League. He was named as the NBL's Most Valuable Player for the 1985 season, becoming the first Australian born player to win the award. Ken Richardson (May 24, 1950 – October 22, 2013) was an American basketball player who played his entire professional career in Australia. He became a South Australian basketball icon playing for the West Adelaide Bearcats in the SA State League and the National Basketball League (NBL). Richardson, who played his college basketball at Ohio Dominican University and was a Mid Ohio Conference First Team selection in 1970–71, joined West Adelaide in 1974, winning the 1975 Woollacott Medal en route to his first SA state championship.
