1981 NAIA World Series
The 1981 NAIA World Series was a double-elimination tournament to determine the baseball champion of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The tournament was held at Chaparral Stadium on the campus of Lubbock Christian College in Lubbock, Texas, from June 2 through June 8. The Grand Canyon Antelopes won the tournament, the team's second consecutive NAIA baseball championship. Double Elimination
A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost ''two'' games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only ''one'' defeat results in elimination. One method of arranging a double-elimination tournament is to break the competitors into two sets of brackets, the ''winners' bracket'' and ''losers' bracket'' (''W'' and ''L'' brackets for short; also referred to as ''championship bracket'' and ''elimination bracket'', ''upper bracket'' and ''lower bracket'', or ''main bracket'' and ''repechage'') after the first round. The first-round winners proceed into the W bracket and the losers proceed into the L bracket. NAIA World Series
The NAIA World Series (officially branded as the Avista NAIA World Series for sponsorship purposes from 2013) is a double-elimination tournament, held since 1957, to determine the baseball champion of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Since 2000, the tournament has been held at Harris Field on the campus of Lewis–Clark State College (LCSC) in Lewiston, Idaho, having previously hosted from 1984 to 1991. History A total of twelve cities have hosted the NAIA World Series. In 1957, the first edition of the series was held in Alpine, Texas, the home of inaugural champions, Sul Ross State. From 1984 to 1991 and since 2000, the series has been held in Lewiston on the campus of LCSC, the winningest school in the competition. Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding.
