1981 NAIA Division I Football Season
The 1981 NAIA Division I football season was the 26th season of college football sponsored by the NAIA, was the 12th season of play of the NAIA's top division for football. The season was played from August to November 1981 and culminated in the 1981 NAIA Division I Champion Bowl, played this year on December 19, 1981 at Burlington Memorial Stadium in Burlington, North Carolina (near the campus of Elon College). Defending national champion Elon defeated in the Champion Bowl, 3–0, to win their second NAIA national title. Conference changes * This is the final season the NAIA officially recognizes a football champion from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Lone Star Conference. Northern Intercollegiate Conference
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level, which operates in the western Midwestern United States. Nine of its members are in Minnesota, with three members in South Dakota, two members in North Dakota, and one member each in the states of Iowa and Nebraska. It was founded in 1932. With the recent NSIC expansion, the original six member schools have been reunited. With the inclusion of the several new member institutions, it is one of the largest Division II conferences in the country with 16 members. The Cameron Aggies are the athletic team that represent Cameron University, located in Lawton, Oklahoma, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. Wisconsin State University Conference
The Wisconsin State University Conference (WSUC) was an American intercollegiate college athletic conference that was formed in July 1913 as the Wisconsin State Normal Conference. All member institutions were located in the State of Wisconsin. The WSUC sponsored competitions and championships in basketball, football, and other sports. Charter members included La Crosse, Wisconsin State College of Milwaukee (1913-1956), Oshkosh, Platteville, River Falls, Stevens Point, Superior, and Whitewater. Other members included Eau Claire (joined 1917) and Stout (1914). All of these schools were (and remain) State institutions, most of them had been founded as normal schools in the late 19th century. The West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) was a collegiate athletic conference which historically operated exclusively in the state of West Virginia, but briefly had one Kentucky member in its early years, and expanded into Pennsylvania in its final years. The Elon Phoenix football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the Elon University located in the U.S. state of North Carolina.
