East Division (CFL)
The East Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League, its counterpart being the West Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the East Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The four teams in the division are the Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, and Ottawa Redblacks. Several now-defunct teams have also played in the East Division including two teams from the United States and a large number of teams that have played in Hamilton, Montreal, and Ottawa prior to the current teams from those cities. Montreal Alouettes Seasons
This is a complete list of seasons competed by the Montreal Alouettes, a Canadian Football League team. The team was founded in 1946 as a member of the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union, and followed the rest of the IRFU into the CFL when it was founded in 1958. The franchise folded after the 1981 season, but a new team named the Concordes took their place in the East Division and inherited the Alouettes' history. That franchise was renamed the Alouettes in 1986 on the 40th anniversary of the inception of the Alouettes franchise. However, the Alouettes folded a day before the 1987 regular season began. The demise of the CFL's American expansion brought new life to professional football in Montreal. The owners of the Baltimore Stallions relocated to Montreal after the 1995 season and reconstituted themselves as the third incarnation of the Alouettes. 1980 BC Lions Season
The 1980 BC Lions finished in fourth place in the Western Conference with an 8–7–1 record. Despite the winning record, they still failed to make the playoffs. Joe Paopao took over as the starting quarterback, due to Jerry Tagge's career ending knee injury. Due to injuries to Paopao, rookie Roy Dewalt also got six starts at pivot. With Larry Key missing half the season, John Henry White was the Lions main offensive threat with 834 rushing yards and 283 receiving yards. Harry Holt had a great season at tight end with 648 yards receiving and 6 touchdowns. Centre Al Wilson (for 6th consecutive year) and Harry Holt were named to the CFL All-star team. Taylor Field, known in its latter years as Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field for sponsorship reasons, was an open-air stadium located in Regina, Saskatchewan. Bye (sports)
In sport, a bye is the preferential status of a player or team that is automatically advanced to the next round of a tournament, without having to play an opponent in an early round. In knockout (elimination) tournaments they can be granted either to reward the highest ranked participant(s) or assigned randomly, to make a working bracket if the number of participants is not a power of two (e.g. 16 or 32). In round-robin tournaments, usually one competitor gets a bye in each round when there are an odd number of competitors, as it is impossible for all competitors to play in the same round. However, over the whole tournament, each plays the same number of games as well as sitting out for the same number of rounds. The "Berger Tables" used by FIDE for chess tournaments, provide pairings for even numbered pools and simply state that "Where there is an odd number of players, the highest number counts as a bye." McMahon Stadium is a Canadian football stadium in Calgary, Alberta. The stadium is owned by the University of Calgary and operated by the McMahon Stadium Society. The stadium is between the downtown core and the University of Calgary, north of 16 Avenue NW between Crowchild Trail and University Drive. It is within walking distance of the Banff Trail C-Train station.
