1980 European Indoor Championships In Athletics
The 1980 European Athletics Indoor Championships were held in Sindelfingen, a city in West Germany, on 1 and 2 March 1980. The championships were boycotted by East Germany. The middle-distance races were hand-timed. The host nation topped the medal table with 12 medals, including 5 golds, followed closely by Poland and the Soviet Union. Ray Flynn (athlete)
Raymond P. Flynn (born 22 January 1957) is a retired middle-distance runner who works as a sports agent. Over the course of his racing career, Flynn ran a total of 89 sub-four minute miles, with his best time (and current Irish mile record) of 3:49.77 on 7 July 1982 in Oslo, Norway at the Bislett Games Dream Mile. He also holds the current Irish 1500 meter record of 3:33.5, set in the same Oslo race. Jacek Roman Wszoła (born 30 December 1956 in Warsaw, Poland) is a retired Polish high jumper best known for winning gold and silver medals at the 1976 and 1980 Summer Olympics respectively. Dietmar Mögenburg (, ; born 15 August 1961) is a (West) German former high jumper who won gold medals at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and at the 1982 European Championships in Athens. Hans-Jürgen Orthmann
Hans-Jürgen Orthmann (born 5 February 1954) is a German former long-distance runner who competed for West Germany. He made thirteen consecutive appearances at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships from 1975 to 1987. His highest honour was a silver medal in 1980. He was a seven-time national champion, taking three titles in cross country running, two in road running and two in track. His silver medal at the 1980 IAAF World Cross Country Championships made him only the second German to win an individual medal at the competition, after 1977 bronze medallist Detlef Uhlemann. Orthmann's finish remains the best ever by a German athlete.
