1980 Eastern 8 Conference Baseball Tournament
The 1980 Eastern 8 Conference baseball tournament was held on May 18 and 19, 1980 to determine the champion of the NCAA Division I Eastern 8 Conference, renamed in 1982 as the Atlantic 10 Conference, for the 1980 NCAA Division I baseball season. This was the second iteration of the event, and was held on The Ellipse, home field of George Washington, in Washington, D.C. won the championship and the conference's automatic bid to the 1980 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. NCAA Division I (D-I) is the highest level of College athletics, intercollegiate athletics sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States, which accepts players globally. Atlantic 10 Conference
The Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) is a collegiate athletic conference whose schools compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Division I. The A-10's member schools are located in states mostly on the United States Eastern Seaboard, as well as some in the Midwest: Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, and Missouri as well as in the District of Columbia. Although some of its members are state-funded, half of its membership is made up of private, Catholic institutions. Despite the name, there are 15 full-time members, and four affiliate members that participate in women's field hockey and men's lacrosse. The season progressed through the regular season and concluded with the 1980 College World Series. The Ellipse
The Ellipse (sometimes referred to as President's Park South) is a park south of the White House fence and north of Constitution Avenue and the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The Ellipse is also the name of the circumference street within the park. The entire park, which features monuments, is open to the public and is part of President's Park. The George Washington Colonials baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of George Washington University in Washington, DC, United States.
