The Eastern Zone was one of the three regional zones of the 1980 Davis Cup. 10 teams entered the Eastern Zone, with 6 teams competing in the preliminary round to join the previous year's semifinalists in the main draw. Japan Davis Cup team, Japan and India Davis Cup team, India received byes into the quarterfinals, while Australia Davis Cup team, Australia and New Zealand Davis Cup team, New Zealand received byes into the semifinals. The winner of the main draw went on to compete in the Inter-Zonal Zone against the winners of the 1980 Davis Cup Americas Zone, Americas Zone and 1980 Davis Cup Europe Zone, Europe Zone. Australia defeated New Zealand in the final and progressed to the 1980 Davis Cup#Inter-Zonal Zone, Inter-Zonal Zone. The 1980 Davis Cup was the 69th edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 52 teams would enter the competition, 30 in the Europe Zone, 12 in the Americas Zone, and 10 in the Eastern Zone. Argentina Davis Cup team, Argentina defeated the United States Davis Cup team, United States in the Americas Inter-Zonal final, Australia Davis Cup team, Australia defeated New Zealand Davis Cup team, New Zealand in the Eastern Zone final, and Italy Davis Cup team, Italy and Czechoslovakia Davis Cup team, Czechoslovakia were the winners of the two Europe Zones, defeating Sweden Davis Cup team, Sweden and Romania Davis Cup team, Romania respectively. In the Inter-Zonal Zone, Czechoslovakia defeated Argentina and Italy defeated Australia in the semifinals.
