1979–80 Huddersfield Town A.F.C. Season
Huddersfield Town's 1979–80 campaign is one of Town's most successful in their history, gaining promotion from the Football League Fourth Division, Division 4 title, the last season in which Town won the divisional title. They finished two points clear of Walsall F.C., Walsall. In Mick Buxton, Mick Buxton's first full season in charge, Town scored 101 league goals, the only season in which Town have scored more than 100 league goals in their entire history. This ended Town's five-year stint in the basement division. The only season after this that they were in the 4th tier was in the Huddersfield Town F.C. season 2003-04, 2003–04 season. Huddersfield Town A
Huddersfield is a market town in the Kirklees district in West Yorkshire, England. It is the administrative centre and largest settlement in the Kirklees district. The town is in the foothills of the Pennines. The River Holme's confluence into the similar-sized Colne to the south of the town centre which then flows into the Calder in the north eastern outskirts of the town. The rivers around the town provided soft water required for textile treatment in large weaving sheds, this made it a prominent mill town with an economic boom in the early part of the Victorian era Industrial Revolution. The town centre has much neoclassical Victorian architecture, one example is which is a Grade I listed building – described by John Betjeman as "the most splendid station façade in England" – and won the Europa Nostra award for architecture. Alan Starling
Alan William Starling (born 2 April 1951) was a professional footballer, who played as a goalkeeper for Luton Town, Torquay United, Northampton Town & Huddersfield Town. Playing career Starling began his career as an apprentice with Luton Town, turning professional in April 1969 and making his league debut the following season. He joined Torquay United on loan in February 1971, playing just once, in a 4–0 defeat at home to Reading in place of regular keeper Andy Donnelly, before returning to Luton. He moved to Northampton Town in June 1971 and went on to make over 200 appearances for the Cobblers. In April 1976 he scored a penalty in the penultimate game of the season, against Hartlepool United, ensuring that every regular player for Northampton that season has scored at least once. He also holds the record of the most minutes without conceding a goal for Northampton Town when he went 595 minutes unbeaten between 25 October and 29 November 1975.
