The 1979 Scottish Cup Final was contested between Rangers and Hibernian. After goalless draws in the initial match and the replay, Rangers won the Cup by winning 3–2 after extra time in the second replay. The winning goal for Rangers was an own goal scored with his head by Arthur Duncan. Tommy McLean
Thomas McLean Jr. (born 2 June 1947 in Larkhall) is a Scottish former professional football player and manager. McLean played for Kilmarnock, Rangers and Scotland as a midfielder. He managed Morton, Motherwell, Hearts, Raith Rovers and Dundee United. Early life McLean grew up in Ashgill, Lanarkshire, along with his elder brothers Jim and Willie, who would also become successful players and managers. Playing career A traditional tricky winger, McLean started his career at Kilmarnock, where at one point all three brothers were at the club together, Jim and Tommy as players and Willie as a coach. He was part of the Kilmarnock team which won the club's only league title, in 1964-65. He joined Rangers in 1971 for £65,000 and was involved in the clubs famous 1972 Cup Winners Cup triumph. Des Bremner
Desmond George Bremner (born 7 September 1952) is a Scottish former professional football midfielder. He made more than 600 league appearances for clubs in both Scotland and England, was a member of Aston Villa's European Cup-winning team of 1982, and was capped for the Scotland national team. Career Born in Aberchirder, Banffshire, Bremner began his football career with Banff-based Highland League club Deveronvale before joining Hibernian in 1971, turning professional in November 1972. He made his only appearance for Scotland while with Hibs in March 1976, coming on as a substitute for Kenny Dalglish in the game against Switzerland. He moved to Aston Villa in 1979 for a fee of £275,000 and quickly settled as a regular in the side. George Stewart (footballer Born 1947)
George Stewart (born 29 August 1947 in Edinburgh) is a Scottish former professional footballer, who played for Dundee and Hibernian. Born in Edinburgh, Stewart started his career with Tynecastle Boys Club, before signing for Dundee in 1964.Jeffrey, pp158-159. Stewart was part of the Dundee side that won the 1973 Scottish League Cup Final. He transferred to Hibernian in 1976, after Dundee were relegated from the Scottish Premier Division. Stewart played in over 100 league matches for Hibs, and played in the twice-replayed 1979 Scottish Cup Final. Stewart had helped Hibs reach that final by scoring one of the goals against Edinburgh derby rivals Hearts in the quarter-final. Stewart left Hibs in 1981 to sign for Cowdenbeath, but at the end of the season he joined Dunfermline as a coach. Ally Brazil
Ally (Benny) Brazil (born 10 December 1958) is a Scottish former footballer, who played over 200 league games for Hibernian. He played in all three games of the marathon 1979 Scottish Cup Final, which Hibs lost in extra time of the second replay. He played in the Hamilton Academical side that knocked Rangers out the Scottish Cup in 1987. He then went on and played for Forfar Athletic and played the best football of his career under a few different managers. He later dropped in to the junior ranks playing for Armadale, Bonnyrigg Rose and Stoneyburn. He also was coach to local amateur side Balerno Athletic for many years. John Greig
John Greig (born 11 September 1942) is a Scottish former professional footballer, who played as a defender. He spent his entire career with Rangers, as a player, manager and director. Greig was voted "The Greatest Ever Ranger" in 1999 by the club's supporters, and has been elected to Rangers' Hall of Fame. Playing career Youth Greig played his youth football with United Crossroads Boys Club in Edinburgh, under the supervision of Eric Gardiner, and supported Hearts as a boy. Alex Miller
Alex Miller (born 4 July 1949) is a Scottish football manager and former player. As a player, he had a 15-year career with Rangers, winning several trophies. As a manager, he won the 1991–92 Scottish League Cup with Hibernian. He subsequently worked for Premier League club Liverpool for nine years, assisting Gérard Houllier and Rafael Benítez. Playing career Miller started his playing career with Clydebank Strollers before he made the move to Rangers. Gordon Duffield Smith (born 29 December 1954) is a Scottish football player, coach and executive. Smith played for several clubs, including Kilmarnock, Rangers, Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City. After retiring as a player, he worked as a football agent and BBC football pundit before being appointed chief executive of the Scottish Football Association in 2007, a post he held until his resignation on 19 April 2010. Smith then worked as the director of football of Rangers during the 2011–12 season.
