Kim Robertson (athlete)
Kim Annette Robertson (born 10 March 1957) is a New Zealand former track and field sprinter. She represented New Zealand at three Commonwealth Games, one World Indoor Championship, three IAAF World Cups and three Pacific Conference Games. She was also selected in the 1980 Moscow Olympic team in the 400 meters but did not compete due to the NZ Government boycotting the event. Early life Robertson was born on 10 March 1957, the middle child of Maurice Robertson and Eileen Hobcraft, in Mt Eden, a suburb of Auckland. Both her parents were athletes in their own right. Her father captained the New Zealand national rugby league team in the 1940s and 1950s and was inducted into the Legends of League (Hall of Fame equivalent) in 2000. Her mother was a sprinter, netball and basketball player for the Auckland province. Marita Koch
Marita Koch (later Meier-Koch; born 18 February 1957) is a German former sprint track and field athlete. During her career she collected 16 world records in outdoor sprints as well as 14 world records in indoor events. Her record of 47.60 in the 400 metres, set on 6 October 1985, still stands. Biography Born in Wismar, East Germany, Marita Koch displayed exceptional speed even as a young child and was defeating boys much older than herself in sprint races whilst at school. By the time she had turned 15 years old, she was training under Wolfgang Meier. Meier worked as a naval engineer, but also coached athletics part-time. Koch and Meier moved to Rostock where Koch began to study medicine. However, she decided to stop her studies and focus on running instead. Koch was coached by Meier for her entire career, and they later married. She retained her maiden name, and is now known as Marita Koch-Meier. She and her husband have a daughter named Ulrike. Barry Besanko
Barry Besanko (born 15 August 1956) is a former Australian sprinter and Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Besanko was a junior nationals hurdles champion and competed in many athletics events before joining Essendon. In the Australian Track & Field Championships, his best performances included a second-place finish in the 100 metres in 1976-77 and four successive top three finishes in the 200m, finishing second in 1978-79. He was also a member of the Victorian team that won the 4 x 100 metres relay final in 1977-78, along with Fred Lehmann, Peter Van Miltenburg and Colin McQueen. Internationally, Besanko represented Oceania at the 1977 IAAF World Cup in West Germany and the 1979 IAAF World Cup in Canada. At both World Cups he was a finalist in the 4 x 100 metres relays, placing seventh each time. Melvin Lattany (born August 10, 1959) is a former United States, American track athlete. He was one of the world's dominating Sprint (running), sprinters in the early 1980s. Early years Lattany attended Glynn Academy, where he was a standout sprinter in track. He also practiced football, where although he was primarily a wide receiver, he also played as a Safety (American and Canadian football position), safety, cornerback, punt returner, kickoff returner and was the backup placekicker. He accepted a track scholarship from the University of Georgia, where he established a new List of junior world records in athletics, Men's World Junior Record over 100 metres on July 30, 1978.
