1979 Copa América
The 1979 edition of the Copa América association football tournament was played between 18 July and 12 December. It was not held in a particular country, all matches were played on a home and away basis. Defending champions Peru were given a bye into the semi-finals. CD O'Higgins
O'Higgins Fútbol Club (), also known as O'Higgins de Rancagua, is a Chilean professional football club based in Rancagua, that currently plays in the Campeonato Nacional. The club's home stadium is Estadio El Teniente, opened in 1945 and renovated for the 2015 Copa América, which was hosted by Chile. Patricio Yáñez
Patricio Nazario Yáñez Candia (born January 20, 1961) is a Chilean former footballer who played as a forward. Club career Yáñez began his career in 1977 with San Luis and won the Copa Apertura Segunda División and Chilean Segunda División in 1980. He moved to Spain to play for Real Valladolid, and won the Copa de la Liga in 1984. For the 1985–86 season, he went on loan to Real Zaragoza, before playing for Real Betis. In 1990, he returned to Chile, briefly playing for Universidad de Chile, before ending his career with Colo-Colo. During his time there, he won the Chilean Primera División twice and the Copa Chile, Copa Libertadores and Recopa Sudamericana once. Leonardo Iván Véliz Díaz (born September 3, 1945) is a Chilean former footballer who played as a left winger for Everton, O'Higgins, Unión Española and Colo-Colo of Chile and in the Chile national team in the 1974 FIFA World Cup in Germany. Manuel Antonio "Manny" Rojas Zúñiga (born June 13, 1954) is a retired football midfielder from Chile, who represented his native country at the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain. His professional career took him from his native Chile to Mexico and ultimately the United States. He spent two seasons in the North American Soccer League, four in the Major Indoor Soccer League, three in the American Indoor Soccer Association and one in the American Soccer League.
