Eerste Divisie
The Eerste Divisie (, en, First Division) is the second-highest tier of football in the Netherlands. It is linked with the top-level Eredivisie and with the third-level Tweede Divisie via promotion/relegation systems. It is also known as the Keuken Kampioen Divisie due to sponsorship, while previously it was known as Jupiler League for the same reason. History The Eerste Divisie consists of 20 clubs, who play each other in a double round-robin league, with each club playing the other club home and away. Each club plays every other club once in the first half of the season before the league takes a winter break around the Christmas and New Year's holiday season. The second half of the season sees the same fixtures as the first half, with the stadiums changed, although the two halves are not played in the same order. Sportclub Heerenveen (; West Frisian: Sportklub It Hearrenfean) is a Dutch football club from Heerenveen. They currently play in the Eredivisie, the top level of football in the Netherlands. History Sportclub Heerenveen was founded on 20 July 1920 in the town of Heerenveen, Friesland, as Athleta. It changed name twice, first to Spartaan and then to v.v. Heerenveen in 1922. While the Netherlands was occupied by Germany, Heerenveen won three successive North of the Netherlands championships, and following the end of World War II it went on to win the same title six times in a row; the club's dominance partly ascribed to the presence of Abe Lenstra. During this period, Lenstra led Heerenveen to a famous victory over Ajax in one of the most noted games in Dutch domestic football history. The 61st edition of the KNVB Cup started on August 19, 1978. The first final was played on May 15, 1979: the match Ajax – FC Twente ended a draw: 1–1 (after extra time). Instead of a penalty shootout, a replay was held on May 29. In that match, Ajax beat FC Twente 3–0 and won the cup for the eighth time. Helmond Sport is a professional association football club based in the city of Helmond, North Brabant, Netherlands, that competes in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of the Dutch football league system. The club was founded on 27 June 1967, as a breakaway from the local professional club Helmondia '55, which had gone bankrupt. History The club was founded in 1967, after the professional license was taken over from RKSV Helmondia '55 in order to keep professional football in Helmond. Helmond Sport started in the Tweede Divisie. After only a year, the club was promoted to the First Division after winning the promotion matches against Fortuna Vlaardingen and SC Veendam. Fortuna Vlaardingen was a Dutch football club which was founded in 1904 in Vlaardingen. The club played its matches in the Floreslaan stadium. History The club entered the Eerste Divisie in 1956. Fortuna never made it towards the Eredivisie and competed mostly between Eerste and Tweede Divisie. In 1974 the club separated the amateur and the professional branch. SC Cambuur, also known as Cambuur Leeuwarden, or simply Cambuur, () is a Dutch football club from the city of Leeuwarden formed on 19 June 1964. SV SVV, short for Sportvereniging Schiedamse Voetbal Verenigingen, is a Dutch football club from Schiedam. Founded in 1904, the club won the Dutch national football title in 1949. In 1991, the professional branch of SVV and neighbouring Dordrecht'90 merged to form FC Dordrecht. SVV continues to play in amateur leagues. History The club was founded in 1904 as ''Excelsior'', which was renamed to ''Voorwaarts'' (Forward) two years later. The name was again changed, to SVV this time, when the club entered the Dutch national football competition. SVV was a people's club, and its players came mostly from the local residential area De Gorzen. SVV won promotion to the Eerste Klasse, the highest national division at the time, in 1948.
