The 1978 United States House of Representatives elections was an election for the United States House of Representatives in 1978 which occurred in the middle of Democratic Party (United States), Democratic President Jimmy Carter's term, amidst an energy crisis and rapid inflation. The Democratic Party lost a net of 15 seats to the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party, and thus lost their Supermajority, two-thirds supermajority, but still maintained a large 277-seat majority. ''Aloha'' ( , ) is the Hawaiian word for love, affection, peace, compassion and mercy, that is commonly used as a simple greeting but has a deeper cultural and spiritual significance to native Hawaiians, for whom the term is used to define a force that holds together existence.
