1978 Rose Bowl
The 1978 Rose Bowl was a college football bowl game, played on Monday, January 2, and was the 64th Rose Bowl Game. The Washington Huskies, champions of the Pacific-8 Conference, defeated the favored Michigan Wolverines, champions of the Big Ten Conference, Washington quarterback Warren Moon was named the Rose Bowl Player of the Game. The Huskies led at the half and extended it to early in the third quarter, then held off a Wolverine comeback with two interceptions deep in their own territory in the last two minutes to win by seven. It was the second of three consecutive losses in the Rose Bowl for Michigan, a two-touchdown favorite entering this game. The face value of game tickets was $17.50 each. The 1977 Michigan Wolverines football team was an American football team that represented the University of Michigan in the 1977 Big Ten Conference football season. In its ninth year under head coach Bo Schembechler, the team compiled a 10–2 record, tied with Ohio State for the Big Ten Conference championship, and outscored opponents by a total of 353 to 124. The Wolverines were ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll midway through the season but were upset by the unranked Minnesota Golden Gophers. The 1977 Texas Longhorns football team represented the University of Texas at Austin in the 1977 NCAA Division I football season. The Longhorns finished the regular season with an 11–0 record. Stan Edwards
Stanley J. Edwards (born May 20, 1959) is a former American football running back. A native of Detroit, Edwards played college football at the University of Michigan from 1977 to 1981 and for six years in the National Football League (NFL) for the Houston Oilers (1982-1986) and Detroit Lions (1987). His son, Braylon Edwards, also played football at Michigan and in the NFL. Early years Edwards was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1959. He attended Kettering High School in Detroit. Russell Davis (running Back)
Russell Davis, III (born September 15, 1956) is a former American football player. Davis played college football, principally as a fullback, at the University of Michigan from 1975 to 1978. After rushing for 1,092 yards as a junior, he was selected as the Most Valuable Player on the 1977 Michigan Wolverines football team that won the Big Ten Conference championship. As a senior, he was a co-captain of the 1978 Michigan team and a first-team All-Big Ten running back. In four years at Michigan, he carried the ball 523 times for 2,560 yards and 18 touchdowns. He played in the 1979 East–West Shrine Game and set Shrine Game records with six touchdowns and 199 rushing yards. Davis played professional football as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1979 to 1983. The 1977 USC Trojans football team represented the University of Southern California (USC) in the 1977 NCAA Division I football season.
