The 1978 Northern Illinois Huskies football team represented Northern Illinois University in the 1978 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Huskies competed in the highest division of football at the time: the newly formed Division I-A. The Huskies competed under the Mid-American Conference banner during this season. John Patrick Culpepper Jr. (born 1941) is a former American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Northern Illinois University from 1976 to 1979, compiling a record of 14–29–1. A native of Johnson County, Texas, Culpepper was a linebacker for the Texas Longhorns 1960–1962. He helped his teams to Southwest Conference championships in 1961 and 1962. Culpepper was an All-SWC selection in 1961 and a team co-captain as a senior. Mount Pleasant is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. Located in Central Michigan, the city is the county seat of Isabella County. The population was 21,688 as of the 2020 United States census. It is surrounded by Union Township but is politically independent. Part of the city (with a population of 8,741) is located within the Isabella Indian Reservation, the base of the federally recognized Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation.
